Baseball Heads to Creighton for Three-Game Series in Omaha

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will look to build upon its second nine-homer game of the season when it heads to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Creighton Bluejays at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, home of the NCAA College World Series, beginning on Friday, April 7.

First pitch for Friday's contest is 7:30 p.m. ET, followed by a 3 p.m. ET game on Saturday, April 8 and a noon ET contest on Sunday, April 9.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown has been on fire over the last five games, going 4-1 over that stretch and hitting a program-record nine homers in a single game against both Coppin State and Maryland Eastern Shore. As a team, the Hoyas are slashing .308/.431/.773 with 24 home runs and 49 tallies.
  • Reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week Ubaldo Lopez cemented himself in the Hoya record book with four home runs against the Hawks on Tuesday while also serving up the most homers in a game since the BIG EAST realignment in 2014.
  • In his last five starts, Lopez has put forth a 14-for-22 showing with eight home runs and 17 RBIs while slashing .636/.692/1.727. With his four home runs on Wednesday, he moved into a tie for 10th place in NCAA with 12 total homers on the season. 
  • Owen Carapellotti has also strung together a successful stretch, going 9-for-18 over the last five games with five home runs, seven extra-base hits and 11 RBIs.
  • Jake Hyde paces the BIG EAST with 13 home runs (T-2nd in NCAA), 47 hits, 35 runs, 35 RBIs and 11 doubles.
  • Three Hoyas are ranked inside the conference's top five in slugging percentage with Hyde (.802 - 1st), Lopez (.765 - 2nd) and Carapellotti (.688 - 5th). Ethan Stern also joined Hyde and Lopez on the BIG EAST home run leaderboard with eight homers (5th).
  • Angelo Tonas leads the conference with 16 appearances in 2022 (8th in NCAA), boasting a 1-1 mark with four saves and 25 strikeouts across 20.1 innings of work.
  • Georgetown leads the conference with 64 home runs (2nd in NCAA) and 228 runs this season (7.9 per game). 
  • The Hoyas are off to their best start at home, posting a 12-2 record and boasting a .312/.419/.649 slash line as a team with 9.0 runs/game.

SCOUTING CREIGHTON
  • The Bluejays come into the weekend series undefeated at home (9-0) while winning 11 of their last 13.
  • Creighton has four players hitting over .300 with 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Alan Roden pacing the team at .365. 
  • 2021 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Dylan Tebrake is slated to open the series for the team from Nebraska, going 3-1 on the season with a 2.54 ERA and 40 strikeouts across eight starts.
  • The Hoyas will travel to Omaha for the first time since 2018, taking two of three from the Bluejays with 6-3 and 8-1 wins.
