Nolan McCarthy Earns BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, Bosch to Honor Roll

WASHINGTON – Graduate student Nolan McCarthy captured BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for his complete-game shutout against Seton Hall last weekend while senior Carter Bosch secured his second-consecutive honor roll selection, as announced by the league on Monday.

Nolan McCarthy | Gr. | RHP | Portland, Ore. - BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
  • McCarthy earned his second BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honor and sixth weekly accolade of the 2022 season.
  • The Portland, Oregon native became the second pitcher in program history to win BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week more than once in a single season, joining Simon Mathews (2016) who secured it three times.
  • McCarthy (2) also joined Mathews (3), teammate Jake Hyde (3), Sean Maloney (3), Rand Ravnaas (3), Jason Boice (2) and Warren Sizemore (2) as the only Hoyas to secure multiple major weekly awards in the same season.
  • McCarthy registered a complete-game shutout against Seton Hall on Friday. He dominated in his nine innings of work, striking out a career-high 12 batters while surrendering just five hits and no walks.
  • He also recorded at least one punchout in eight of his nine frames of action.
  • McCarthy became the first Hoya to throw a complete-game shutout since Mathews tossed one against Villanova in 2017.
  • The righty tallied his fourth 10-plus strikeout performance of the season while picking up his fifth win.

Carter Bosch | Sr. | RHP | McLean, Va. - BIG EAST Honor Roll
  • Bosch picked his second-straight BIG EAST Honor Roll selection following a solid outing against the Pirates.
  • The righty helped the Hoyas secure back-to-back shutouts against a BIG EAST opponent for the first time in program history with his fifth win of the season on Saturday against Seton Hall.
  • The Virginia native tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five Pirates on Saturday.
  • He retired the first six batters he faced and retired the side in order on three occasions.
  • Bosch also never allowed a runner to move past second base in his outing.

OF NOTE
  • The Hoyas have received a conference nod in 10 of 11 weeks this season, compiling a program-record six major awards to go along with 10 honor roll selections.
