Tippins Picks Up BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honors

WASHINGTON – Freshman Henley Tippins earned her first collegiate award on Monday after the BIG EAST announced its weekly awards following the opening week of play for NCAA Division I women's soccer. No. 19 Georgetown tied 2-2 with No. 14 Penn State on Thursday and beat UMass Lowell 3-0 on Sunday with Tippins scoring three of the five Hoya goals.

  • The Georgia native kicked off scoring against Penn State when she knocked the ball in the net just 19 minutes into the first half in her collegiate debut.
  • In the Blue & Gray's match against the River Hawks, Tippins capitalized on a slow laid-back ball to the UMass Lowell keeper and lifted GU to 1-0.
  • The freshman notched her third goal of the season later in the game against UML when she made a run down the middle of the field, beating two River Hawk defenders in a foot race and slotted the ball in the back of the net.
  • This is the first award of the freshman's collegiate career.
  • Tippins has started both games of the season for the Hoyas.
