Hope Sullivan and Josie Formica Join Field Hockey Staff

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University Field Hockey team is excited to welcome Assistant Coach Hope Sullivan and Graduate Assistant Coach Josie Formica to the coaching staff for the 2022 season. The announcement comes as the Hoyas get ready to report to fall camp for the 2022 season. 

ROAD TO GU: Hope Sullivan
  • Sullivan joins the Hoyas' staff after spending multiple years with Beyond Sticks.
  • The Virginia native has spent over five years with USA Field Hockey and has spent time at high-performance level 1 futures sites and selection events.
  • Sullivan is involved with USAFH and has helped execute their Regionals and National Futures Championships
  • Sullivan is currently involved with umpiring USAFH events at the U-16 and U-19 levels. She was recently selected to join a high-potential umpire development program.
  • She currently holds a USAFH Level 2 coaching certification.
 
SULLIVAN, THE PLAYER AND PERSON
 
  • Sullivan attended McLean High School and was tabbed as a Northern Virginia 1st team All-State selection.
  • She went on to attend Johns Hopkins University, where she was a member of the field hockey team during the 2016-2017 seasons.
  • Sullivan graduated from Johns Hopkins with Honors and a degree in Public Health.
 
Assistant Coach Hope Sullivan, on joining the Hoyas' staff, "I'm thrilled and honored to be joining the Georgetown Field Hockey Staff. It's an immense privilege to be on the field working with student-athletes each day and fostering an environment that enables them to succeed both within and beyond our sport. Under Christy and Liz's guidance, I can't wait to kick off my first season with the Hoyas!"
 
ROAD TO GU: JOSIE FORMICA
 
  • Josie Formica joins the Georgetown staff as a Graduate Assistant Coach after finishing a four-year playing career at American University. 
  • While in high school and college, Formica has coached U10, U12, and U14 teams at her former club, Spark.
  • Formica was a midfielder at AU and was a two-time Academic All-Patriot League team (2020-2021, 2021) and a four-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection.
 
FORMICA, THE PLAYER AND PERSON
 
  • Formica's career at AU ended with an NCAA tournament appearance and a Patriot League Championship.
  • Formica appeared in 58 games and started in 41 of them. 
  • She registered seven goals and 21 shots during her time at AU and added two game-winning goals 
  • Formica was a pivotal part of the AU conference championship team after starting all 17 games during the season.
  • She graduated from American University in the spring of 2022 with a degree in American Studies. She is currently enrolled in the Engaged and Public Humanities program at Georgetown.
  • Josie's mother, Robyn Formica ('91), and aunt, Karin Tator ('95), are both Georgetown Field Hockey alums. Formica attended the Severn School before attending American University in the fall of 2018.
 
Graduate Assistant Coach Josie Formica, on joining the Hoyas' staff, "I feel extremely grateful to be joining Georgetown Field Hockey, a program that means so much to my family. I'm looking forward to learning from Christy, Liz, and Hope, as well as encouraging and supporting the student-athletes to be the best they can be. Go Hoyas!"
