Football Opens 2022 Campaign at Marist

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will hit the road to open the 2022 slate with a matchup against the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday, September 3. Kickoff is slated for noon in Poughkeepsie, New York at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.

HOW TO FOLLOW
  • Saturday's contest can be streamed on ESPN+ with Geoff Brault and Steve Eggink on the call.
  • Live stats will be available for the game and can be found on GUHoyas.com.
  • Tickets for Saturday's matchup can also be found at GUHoyas.com.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • GU will look to open the 2022 campaign on a winning note, having won four of their last five season openers. Georgetown knocked off Delaware State 20-14 in its 2021 season opener after erasing a 14-point deficit to win on a 5-yard touchdown run by Joshua Stakely in overtime.
  • No. 35 Joe Eacobacci Memorial Jersey Recipient Justin Fonteneaux and graduate center Neal Azar will lead the Hoyas into the season as the team's captains. The duo has combined for nearly 60 games of playing experience since coming to the Hilltop in 2018.
  • The Hoyas return three of their seven All-Patriot League selections in first-team honoree Joshua Tomas and second-team selections Ibrahim Kamara and Talati Polamalu.
  • Tomas earned a spot on the 2022 Preseason All-Patriot League team as a return specialist, registering 1,096 all-purpose yards last season. The wide receiver also ranks fifth all-time in all-purpose yardage (3,248), chasing program leader Luke McArdle (4,629).
  • Georgetown will look to continue to have success through the air in 2022, after ranking second in the conference and 26th in FCS with 253.7 passing yards per game. Pierce Holley is slated as the team's starter and will have one of the deepest receiving groups headed by a pair of conference leaders in receiving yards per game from 2021 in Tomas (76.7 - 2nd) and Cameron Crayton (75.6 - 3rd).

ABOUT THE RED FOXES
  • Marist put forth a 5-5 season with a 5-3 record in conference play in 2021.
  • Head Coach Jim Parady, the longest-tenured head coach in Division I football, enters his 31st season with Marist.
  • The Red Foxes have 12 returning starters (seven on defense, five on offense) and feature three Preseason All-Pioneer League selections in linebacker Mike Arrington and safeties Clayborne Fields III and Teddy Wright.
  • Marist was well-disciplined last season, ranking 25th in FCS with 45.5 penalty yards per game.

THE MATCHUP
  • Following a three-year layoff, the Hoyas and the Red Foxes will square off for the 23rd time in program history with GU holding a 17-5 record. The two teams were scheduled to play in the season opener last season but the game was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Georgetown has won two straight against Marist, winning 39-14 in 2018 and 43-3 in 2019.
  • Tomas logged a receiving touchdown and a rushing score in 2019, while Herman Moultrie III added 104 yards on the ground and a touchdown of his own.
  • Ibrahim Kamara sacked the quarterback once while Fonteneaux added four tackles and a pass breakup and Quincy Chinwuko registered a hit on the QB.
