Georgetown Faces Villanova on Monday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to Villanova, Pennsylvania to take on the Villanova University Wildcats on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in a conference matchup. Tipoff at Finneran Pavilion is scheduled for noon. The Hoyas are coming off a 66-51 loss to Seton Hall on Tuesday night while Villanova is coming off a 79-71 loss at Butler on Friday night.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Monday's game with a 5-13 overall record and an 0-7 mark in BIG EAST action after dropping their last contest to Seton Hall on Tuesday.
  • The Hoyas are coming off of a tough offensive performance, with a trio of Hoyas tying for the team lead in scoring as Akok Akok, Jordan Riley and Primo Spears each tallied nine points. Akok and Riley were both 4-for-9 from the field, while Akok added a pair of blocks and Riley chipped in a trio of steals.
  • Qudus Wahab grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds with seven on the offensive glass while adding six points (3-5 FG) and one block.
  • Spears' 15.3 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Brandon Murray (15.0 ppg), Jay Heath (13.4 ppg) and Wahab (10.2 ppg).
  • On the glass, Qudus Wahab leads the team with 7.7 rpg while Akok chips in 7.0 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.1 apg, good enough for a tie for fifth in the BIG EAST Conference. Akok's 1.9 bpg is tied for fourth in the league.
 
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Villanova (8-10, 2-5 BIG EAST) is coming off a 79-71 loss at Butler on Friday night.
  • Nova had three players reach double figures Friday night with Eric Dixon recording 22 points, Caleb Daniels added 21 and Cam Whitmore rounded out the trio with 12.
  • Daniels and Marc Armstrong both fouled out Friday evening in the Wildcats defeat. Freshman Brendan Hausen filled in for the Wildcats chipping in nine points.
  • Daniels (16.7), Dixon (16.5), Whitmore (13.1) and Brandon Slater (10.7) are averaging double figures for the Wildcats this season. Dixon averages a team high 6.5 rpg.
  • Kyle Neptune is in his first season at the helm of the Wildcats after a one season stint as head coach at Fordham University.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Monday's matchup will be the 93rd all-time dating back to the 1921-22 season. The Hoyas trail the series 45-47.
  • In their last contest, the Hoyas fell to the Wildcats 73-57 in the Blue & Gray's second game of 2023. Jordan Riley led a pair of Hoyas in double figures with 12 points, while Akok Akok managed his second double-double of the season as he tallied 11 points and grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks.
