Georgetown Hosts DePaul Tuesday Evening

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hosts the DePaul University Blue Demons Tuesday evening. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is set for 7 p.m. The Hoyas are coming off a 95-82 loss at Xavier on Saturday while DePaul is coming off a 75-64 loss to Providence on Saturday.
 
 
FOLLOW THE HOYAS
  • Saturday's matchup can be seen live on FS1 with Scott Graham calling the play-by-play and Sarah Kustok providing analysis.
  • The game will be broadcasted locally on 99.1 FM and nationally on Sirius XM 384 with Rich Chvotkin on the call for his 49th season. On Monday, the National Sports Media Association announced that Chvotkin was voted the 2023 Woody Durham Voice of College Sports Award winner. The award will be presented during the 63rd NSMA awards banquet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on June 26, 2023.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Tuesday's game with a 5-15 record and an 0-9 mark in BIG EAST play after dropping their last contest at then-No. 8/8 Xavier on Saturday.
  • Primo Spears was spectacular against the Musketeers with 37 points, 11 assists, three rebounds and one steal.
  • Spears connected on a career-best 15 field goals, including a trio of triples, for his 37 points, the best performance of his collegiate tenure. The sophomore's 11 assists tied his collegiate best, for the first double-double of his career.
  • Akok Akok also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while chipping in three blocks, two steals and an assist.
  • Qudus Wahab was perfect from the floor at 4-of-4 and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe tallying 10 points. Wahab chipped in three rebounds, a trio of blocks, a pair of assists and one steal.
  • Spears' 16.6 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Brandon Murray (14.7 ppg), Jay Heath (13.4 ppg) and Wahab (10.0 ppg).
  • On the glass, Qudus Wahab leads the team with 7.3 rpg while Akok Akok chips in 7.0 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.5 apg, good enough for second in the BIG EAST Conference. Akok's team-leading 1.9 bpg is tied for fourth in the league.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEMONS
  • DePaul (9-11, 3-6 BIG EAST) is coming off a 75-64 loss to then-No. 22/20 Providence College on Saturday.
  • Umoja Gibson led the Blue Demons with 16 points on 6-of-15 shooting with four of his makes coming from behind the arc. Gibson chipped in five rebounds, five assists and two steals while Da'Sean Nelson was the only other scorer to reach double figures with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
  • Gibson leads four Blue Demons averaging double figures scoring 15.4 ppg while Javan Johnson nearly matches him with 15.3 ppg. Nelson and Eral Penn average 10.5 ppg and 9.9 ppg respectively.
  • Tony Stubblefield is in his second season as Head Coach of DePaul.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the 48th all-time between the two sides dating back to 1941-42. The Hoyas lead the series 33-14.
  • In their last contest, the Hoyas fell to the Blue Demons 83-76 on December 29, 2022. Brandon Murray led the Hoyas in scoring with a career-best 29 points on an 11-of-17 effort from the field and a 5-for-5 from beyond the arc.
