Georgetown Faces Xavier in BIG EAST Championships Final Presented by JEEP

WASHINGTON – The second seeded Georgetown University women's soccer team is set to face the top-seeded Xavier Musketeers in the BIG EAST Championships Final Presented by Jeep on Sunday, November 5. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Maryland and the game will be televised on FS1. The Hoyas defeated UConn 1-0 on Thursday night advancing to its eighth-consecutive BIG EAST title game. Sunday's contest will be a rematch of last year's BIG EAST title game as GU won the game 1-0 behind a goal from Tatum Lenain.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown enters the contest with an 11-1-7 record after downing UConn 1-0 on Thursday evening.
  • Lenain scored the Hoya goal just minutes into second half action, off an assist from Allie Winstanley.
  • Allie Augur recorded her 11th shutout of the season in goal for GU and moved into a tie for second all-time in career shutouts with 32. Augur is now tied with Emma Newins who recorded 32 clean sheets from 2012-15.
  • Six Hoyas earned BIG EAST Postseason Honors this week. Julia Leas was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season.
  • Leas, Augur, Eliza Turner and Natalie Means all earned a nod to the first team. Brianne Riley was tabbed as a second team selection and Winstanley was a third team honoree.
  • If Leas plays in Sunday's contest, she will set a new program-record for most appearances for the Blue & Gray with 98 over the course of her career. Leas has missed one contest since her freshman season (2019) which was against DePaul earlier this season.
 
ABOUT XAVIER
  • Xavier enters the contest with a 14-2-4 record after defeating fourth-seeded Providence 2-0 on Thursday afternoon.
  • Samantha Wiehe paces the Musketeer offense with seven goals and six assists on the season.
  • Maria Galley boasts a .40 goals-against average between the pipes for Xavier. Galley has logged over 1,700 minutes in goal and has allowed only eight goals on the season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Xavier have met 13 times before and GU holds a 9-1-3 advantage in the series.
  • The last time the two sides met was earlier this season in a 0-0 draw in Cincinnati.
  • In 2022, GU downed the Musketeers in the BIG EAST Championships Final 1-0 off a goal from Lenain.
  • This is the fourth time the two sides have met in postseason play as GU holds a 2-1 advantage in the postseason series.
 
WHAT LIES AHEAD
The winner of Sunday's contest will receive the BIG EAST's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The selection show for the tournament will be Monday, November 6 at 4 p.m. and can be watched live on NCAA.com.
