WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will open the 2023 season in Cary, North Carolina as it takes on Presbyterian College this weekend for a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the USA Baseball Complex which is home to the Division II College World Series.
*Gametime was originally 3 p.m. but due to weather concerns gametime has been pushed to 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
- Georgetown is coming off of a 32-24 season in 2022 which set the record for most wins in a season in program history.
- The Hoyas return 20 players from last season including now school record holders Ubaldo Lopez and Jake Hyde who each hit 19 home runs a season ago.
- Preseason All-BIG EAST Selection Owen Carapellotti is primed for a breakout sophomore season after being named Second Team Freshman All-American last year.
- GU added a plethora of talent this season with eight freshman and 10 transfers coming to the Hilltop.
- Four of the Hoya's top five batters from a season ago return this season. Hyde (.354 avg), Andrew Ciufo (.287 avg), Carapellotti (.282 avg) and Lopez (.264 avg) are all set to make their season debut this weekend.
- Matthew Sapienza is the most seasoned returner for the Hoyas on the mound having pitched 60.0 innings a season ago. Sapienza boasted a 2-4 record while appearing in 17 games as a true freshman.
- Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his third season on the Hilltop. After a 6-25 season in 2021, Thompson guided the Blue & Gray to 32 wins last season which is the most in program history. The team also ranked 17th in the country for home runs with 98.
ABOUT PRESBYTERIAN
- PC went 22-32 last season in the Big South Conference. The Blue Hose went 9-15 in conference play after closing the year on a 10-game losing streak.
- The Blue Hose return junior, Jay Wetherington who hit .302 a season ago with three home runs, eight doubles and one triple.
- Head Coach Elton Pollock enters his 19th season at the helm for the Blue Hose.
