Georgetown Hosts No. 24/T23 UConn in Annual Gray Out Game

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the No. 24/T23 University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday, February 4 in GU's annual Gray Out game. The contest will be played at Capital One Arena and tipoff is slated for noon. The Hoyas are coming off a 63-53 loss to Creighton on Wednesday evening while the Huskies are coming off a 90-76 win at DePaul on Tuesday.

  • Saturday's matchup can be seen live on FS1 with Brandon Gaudin calling the play-by-play and Tarik Turner providing analysis.
  • The game will be broadcasted locally on The Team 980 and nationally on Sirius XM 381 with Rich Chvotkin on the call for his 49th season.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Saturday's game with a 6-17 record and a 1-11 mark in BIG EAST play after falling to Creighton 63-53 at Capital One Arena Wednesday night.
  • Qudus Wahab led a trio of Hoyas in double figures Wednesday evening with 14 points. Brandon Murray chipped in 11 points and Primo Spears added 10 of his own.
  • Murray and Wahab led the Hoyas on the glass with Murray grabbing a team-high eight boards and Wahab grabbing seven. Wahab also added three steals on the evening while Murray chipped in one.
  • Spears' 16.8 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Murray (14.4 ppg), Jay Heath (12.9 ppg) and Wahab (10.3 ppg).
  • On the glass, Wahab leads the team with 7.3 rpg while Akok Akok chips in 6.8 rpg.
  • Spears paces the offense with 5.3 apg, which is tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference and his 16.8 ppg are also good for second in the league. Akok's team-leading 2.0 bpg is tied for second in the league.
 
ABOUT THE No.24/T23 HUSKIES
  • No. 24/T23 UConn (17-6, 6-6 BE) is coming off a 90-76 win at DePaul on Tuesday.
  • Jordan Hawkins led three Huskies in double figures with 26 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 12-14 from the line while chipping in five rebounds, one assist and one block.
  • Adama Sanogo was efficient from the floor shooting 10-of-13 and recording 25 points on the night. Sanogo added nine rebounds and one block.
  • Tristen Newton recorded 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting and went a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
  • Sanogo leads the conference in scoring with 17.3 ppg while Hawkins' 16.6 ppg is good for third in the conference.
  • Sanogo's 7.3 rpg is a squad best while Andre Jackson Jr. and Newton are dishing out 4.4 and 4.0 apg, respectively.
  • Dan Hurley is in his fifth season as head coach of the Huskies.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 72nd all-time meeting between the two programs dating back to 1958 with the Hoyas holding a narrow series lead 36-35.
  • In their last contest earlier this season, the Hoyas fell 84-73 in Storrs, Connecticut. Spears tallied 19 points while also chipping in five rebounds and three assists. All five Hoya starters reached double figures in the contest before the Hoyas fell to then-No. 2 and undefeated UConn.
  • Georgetown is 1-0 all-time against teams ranked No. 24 by the Associated Press. In its only meeting against AP No. 24, the Hoyas won 63-47 at No. 24 Notre Dame.
