WASHINGTON – On Saturday night, the Georgetown University track & field team was stellar at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Held at Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, California, the contingent of Hoyas were looking for fast 1,500-meter times to secure spots in the postseason.
ON THE RECORD
"Overall I'm very happy with the men. Matt Payamps won his heat and this sport is about winning. Camden and
Matt Rizzo competed very well and got their regional times out of the way. We accomplished what we were looking to get done . I'm very excited for the rest of the season." - Assistant Track & Field Coach
Brandon Bonsey
"These are top flight races, and to have a section win and two section runner-ups says a lot about the group's preparedness and execution in a challenging environment.
Chloe Gonzalez's breakthrough to 4:16 is a long time coming; the work and signs have been there, but today was the type of validation that we all wanted for her. She earned it. Riggins was sensational; she ran down one of the top runners in the NCAA in the final steps to win the second-fastest section, and then her time held up for second overall to one professional athlete. She has a great sense of how to win, and she represented the program at a very high level now sitting behind only Emily Infled and Joette Norris on our all-time school performance list. That's special company. It was a signature win for her and a great indicator of the types of performances this group is ready for this spring." - Assistant Track & Field Coach
