WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing lightweight squad traveled to the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Wood-Hammond Cup this past weekend battling Princeton and Penn.
In the varsity race, the Hoyas were even with Princeton through the first half of the race when the Tigers pushed out in the stiff headwind to a length lead in the second half of the race, holding on to win. Georgetown was second, downing Penn and avenging a previous loss at the National Lightweight Invitational.
The second varsity race had Princeton charge to the lead with Penn and the Hoyas close throughout the race. Penn moved ahead, and the Hoyas made up ground twice, but could not overtake the Quakers finishing third.
The third varsity squad rowed a solid starting 750m, but the power into the headwind of the other two squads took over in the second half of the race.
