WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's rowing lightweight squad traveled to Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey this past weekend as part of the National Lightweight Invitational.
In the morning races, the Hoyas raced the University of Pennsylvania and MIT. For the varsity crews in the rough conditions, Penn did a better job of handling the start and took about a length lead. The Hoyas chased them down throughout the remainder of the race and at one point grabbed a one-seat lead before Penn got their bow out front at the line.
In the afternoon event, Columbia and Georgetown were bow ball-to-bow ball, stroke-for-stroke through the first half of the race. At the midpoint, the Hoyas made a strong and sustained effort, moving to a one-length victory.
"Having two races against the quality of competition we faced, gives us the opportunity to try different approaches to our racing and we saw success in doing that," said Lightweight Coach
Matt Madigan. "Our 3V being able to race to a full length lead and our 2V right with these schools is a strong move to the future."
