Field Hockey Opens 2023 Campaign Against Davidson, App State

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team kicks off its 2023 campaign with a pair of neutral site games against Davidson and Appalachian state this weekend at the Towson Field Hockey Complex. The Hoyas take on the Wildcats on Friday before facing the Mountaineers on Sunday.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown boasts 17 returning letterwinners from the 2022 campaign along with 11 newcomers
  • The Blue & Gray returns 100 percent of its scoring offense in 2023
  • Vivienne Trumpbour is the top returning scorer with 17 points off of six goals and five assists, including two game winning goals
  • Emma van der Veen had three goals and five assists for 11 points
  • Sophie Towne posted 10 points with four goals and a pair of assists to round out the returning double figure scorers
  • In goal, the Hoyas will see a new face in cage for the first time since 2017 following the graduation of Ciara Weets who has joined the staff as the Goalkeeper Coach
  • Junior Bailey Tietz and newcomer Ella Fahey will battle for time between the pipes
Scouting Davidson
  • Friday's game against Davidson is set for 1 p.m.
  • Georgetown has opened the regular season against Davidson every year since 2015 with the exception of 2021
  • The Wildcats edged GU 1-0 last year in North Carolina, snapping a four-game winning streak by the Blue & Gray in the series
  • Davidson went 4-15 last season after starting the season 3-0
  • The Wildcats lost Charlie Kabelac, their top scorer from a year ago with 19 points, but return Celie Constantine and Sarah Grace Clifton's 10 and nine points, respectively
  • In goal, Genna Barge and Cato Roell split time throughout the year and both return in 2023
  • Barge posted a 2.22 goals-against average with 39 saves and a .709 save percentage while Roell had a 3.32 GAA with 42 saves and a .618 save percentage.
Scouting Appalachian State
  • Sunday's action against the Mountaineers begins at 2 p.m.
  • Georgetown has played App State every year since 2016 and owns a 4-2 record in the span
  • The Mountaineers defeated the Hoyas 5-0 last year in North Carolina
  • App State went 14-6 last season and advanced to the Mid-America Conference tournament championship game
  • The Mountaineers lost four of their five top scorers from 2022, combining for 87 points
  • Their top returning scorer is Sarah Farrell with seven goals and two assists from last year
  • In goal, Addie Clark is back for a graduate season after playing every minute of every game in 2022
  • Clark posted a 1.09 GAA to go with 81 saves and a .779 save percentage
