No. 13/14 Georgetown Draws James Madison

Box Score WASHINGTON – The No. 13/14 Hoyas drew the James Madison Dukes 0-0 on Thursday evening. With the tie, the Hoyas move to 4-0-2 on the season while JMU moves to 2-2-3.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This was a very tough game like we knew it was going to be. JMU is a very good team that is very well coached. They play with conviction in their beliefs and what they are trying to do, and it is not something you see a whole lot. We couldn't solve it in the first half in particular, we never really managed to get a foot on the game and if anything, they owned the first half, and we were quite poor. The second half, we changed to our third system, which I don't think I have ever done in my life. I think it turned the game around and we found some momentum and we were dominating the middle of the field and creating chances. The girls were disappointed in their play in the first half, and we had a much better effort in the second half. I can't really fault the effort as we created enough chances to win the game but were unable to find that goal. Overall, I don't think either team did enough to win the game and credit to JMU they are a good team and will cause lots of problems for other team's this season. I am happy that we managed to get something out of the game and now we will regroup and get ready for Stanford on Sunday."

About the Match
  • Neither team looked particularly dangerous early on in the contest.
  • In the 16th minute, Tatum Lenain smashed a free kick from just outside the box, but the JMU keeper was able to make a diving save to her right side. The Hoyas continued to keep the pressure on the Dukes early.
  • The score would hold at 0-0 at the half.
  • The Hoyas threatened early in the second half with three corner kicks in the first five minutes of the frame.
  • JMU had its fair share of opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the second half, but goalkeeper Cara Martin held the Dukes at bay.
  • GU outshot JMU eight to three in the second half but were unable to find the go-ahead goal.
  • The match would end in a 0-0 draw.
