WASHINGTON – This weekend Georgetown's men's and women's track & field program will compete in the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech.
The Hoyas are coming off a strong performance at the Penn State-hosted Nittany Lion Invitational. The meet saw three wins for the Hoyas:
Tinoda Matsatsa taking the 600m and
Matthew Payamps winning the 3k for the men, and
Maya Drayton winning the women's 400m.
About the Georgetown Men
- Freshman Tinoda Matsatsa has been on fire to start his Georgetown career. Before the break Matsatsa won the 800m at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener and took the 600m at Penn State this past weekend.
- At Penn State, Matthew Payamps won the 3,000m by an 11-second margin with a 8:06.20 finish.
- Joshua Paige has also had a strong start to his season. He won the 200m at Penn State and finished sixth in the 60m, winning his heat.
About the Georgetown Women
- Maya Drayton has two wins under her belt to start off the season; winning the 400m this past weekend and setting a new school record to take the 300m with a 38.85 time at the Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational earlier this season.
- In the 400m, Drayton was joined by two other Hoyas in the top 10: KC Ashiogwu finished second while Grace Smiechowski finished eighth.
- Rebecca Ochan finished fifth in the 200m with a career best 24.76 time at Penn State.
- Earlier in the season at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, Chloe Scrimgeour set a new school record for the 5000m run with a 15:24.36 finish, earning her BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week honors.
