WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's and women's track & field programs had another fantastic weekend of competition at the Penn State National Invitational this weekend.
The results featured a new Georgetown record for the women's indoor mile, another victory for
Tinoda Matsatsa, and strong performances from
Peter Herold and
Rebecca Ochan.
ON THE RECORD
"We're wrapping up January on a high note with continued record breaking performances.
Tinoda Matsatsa has shown he will be a force to reckon with nationally and his 1:46.87 over 800m certainly leaves no doubt about that. Being only the second Hoya to break 1:47.00 Indoor speaks volumes…and this for a freshman.
Melissa Riggins has broken her second school record in two consecutive weeks; 4:30.73 in the mile, a time that will likely be in the top 10 nationally coming out of this weekend. Also proud to see Ochan show consistency with indoor PBs in the 60m (7.59 which is 5th best in program history) along with the 200m running 24.55. The good form seen so far this season is very encouraging and we hope to have see our Men & Women have great performances as we head into February." - Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Alton McKenzie
"Another very solid weekend for the middle distance group. Tinoda beat an incredible field to keep his winning streak alive. There were 4 first team All-Americans in that race so to beat all of them as a freshman was impressive.
Tim McInerney and
Peter Herold also ran top 10 marks in Georgetown history in the 800 and 3000 respectively. I'm very happy with how the group competed in general." - Head Men's Cross Country Coach; Assistant Coach for Track & Field
