Hoyas Host No. 12/15 UConn at Entertainment & Sports Arena

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return to The District to take on the No. 12/15 UConn Huskies in the BIG EAST Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Southeast Washington, D.C. Tipoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is sitting at 12-2 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • GU is coming off of a 60-55 comeback victory at Butler on Wednesday. The Hoyas used a second-half push to pick up their second conference win of the season and third victory in a row.
  • Graduate student Graceann Bennett led the way for the Hoyas with a career-best 20 points and eight rebounds to her credit.
  • Senior Kelsey Ransom managed 13 points and three assists, while junior Brianna Scott tallied 11 points and three blocks in the win.
  • The Hoyas shot 46.9% (23-49) from the field, and the Blue & Gray allowed 37.5% (21-56) shooting by the Bulldogs.
  • GU was outrebounded by Butler 35-27, and Georgetown forced 13 Bulldog turnovers on five steals.
  • For her efforts in wins over DePaul and Kennesaw State last week, Ransom was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the fourth time this season.
  • Ransom leads the team in almost all categories. She is 10th in the league in scoring (15.4 ppg), 15th in rebounding (6.1 rpg), sixth in assists (3.6 apg) and is second in the league with an impressive 2.7 steals per game.
  • Bennett is second on the team with 9.1 ppg as well as a team-best 7.4 rpg, while Scott rounds out the top three with 9.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg and 1.8 blocks per game.
  • The Hoyas are leading the league and ranked third in the nation in scoring defense averaging 49.6 ppg.
About the Huskies
  • UConn is 11-3 overall and 3-0 in the league after a 94-50 win over No. 21 Creighton on Wednesday evening in Omaha.
  • Paige Bueckers scored 24 points as well as posting seven assists, five rebounds and four steals.
  • Aaliyah Edwards had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and two freshmen, Ashlynn Shade and KK Arnold, had 18 and 17 points, respectively.
  • It was UConn's third 30+ point win in a row after dismantling Marquette, 95-64.
  • The Huskies are currently ranked No. 12 in the AP Poll and No. 15 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll.
Series Info
  • The Hoyas are 6-52 all-time against the Huskies and 4-21 at home. They met three times last season including once at ESA, once in Hartford and also in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal.
  • Last year's meeting at ESA was the closest of the three as the Hoyas fell 67-59.
  • The last home win for the Hoyas was a 65-60 triumph on January 3, 1992.
  • Georgetown's last win over UConn was February 27, 1993 when GU hit a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to get the 64-62 victory and snap a home win streak for the Huskies.
