Georgetown Hosts Seton Hall on Tuesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team closes its three-game homestand on Tuesday, January 9 when the team hosts the Seton Hall University Pirates in the District. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on FS1. Both squads are coming off wins with the Hoyas entering the contest at 8-7 overall and a 1-3 mark in BIG EAST play following a win against DePaul on Saturday. Seton Hall, currently receiving votes in both the Associated Press Poll and USA Today Coaches' Poll, comes into the game following a pair of wins over ranked opponents last week, defeating then-No. 23 Providence in a road matchup as well as besting then-No. 7 Marquette at Prudential Center on Saturday for a 10-5 overall record and a 3-1 mark in league action.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off its first BIG EAST win of the season, defeating the visiting DePaul University Blue Demons 68-65 on Saturday. Supreme Cook's 14 points led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures followed by Ismael Massoud (13), Rowan Brumbaugh (10) and Jayden Epps (10). Dontrez Styles led the Hoyas on the boards, grabbing a career-best 13 rebounds in the contest while Epps' five helpers paced the offense.
  • Georgetown has a trio in double figures, led by Epps' 17.2 ppg, followed by Styles (14.3 ppg) and Cook (10.4 ppg). Epps ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring.
  • Cook's 8.1 rpg leads the team and he is tied for fourth in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Brumbaugh's 19 steals this season tops the Hoyas while his 1.4 spg ranks ninth in the BIG EAST Conference.
  • Epps paces the offense with 4.2 apg while Brumbaugh shares the duties, dishing out 3.2 apg. Epps ranks eighth in the league in assists while his 2.4 3-pointers per game is good enough for fifth in the conference.
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE PIRATES
  • Behind 23 points from Al-Amir Dawes and a 21-point effort from Kadary Richmond, the Seton Hall men's basketball team picked up its second-straight win over a ranked opponent and the third in the last four games with a 78-75 victory over then-No. 7 Marquette on Saturday at Prudential Center. Dre Davis chipped in 11 points while Jaden Bediako led the team on the glass grabbing 11 rebounds. Richmond paced the offense with five helpers to his credit.
  • For his efforts over the week, Richmond was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in two wins - against the Golden Eagles and at then-No. 23 Providence (61-57).
  • Seton Hall has a trio averaging double figures led by Richmond's 15.7 ppg, followed by Davis (13.5 ppg) and Dawes (12.9 ppg).
  • Bediako leads the Pirates on the glass, pulling down 8.1 rpg, good enough to tie for fourth in the league.
  • Richmond's 4.4 apg paces the offense and ranks seventh in the BE.
  • Richmond's 2.2 spg tops the league while teammate Dylan Addae-Wusu (1.9 spg) is third.
  • The Pirates are led by Head Coach Shaheen Holloway, in his second season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH SETON HALL
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the 119th all-time between the two programs, dating back to 1909. The Hoyas narrowly lead the series 61-57 and hold a 33-18 advantage at home. However, the Pirates have won the last five straight.
  • In the last contest, a trio of Hoyas scored in double figures including Jay Heath (10 points) as the Hoyas fell 76-68 in Newark.
  • Cooley has a record of 12-11 all-time against the Pirates.
