No. 18 Georgetown Falls at DePaul

Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team dropped its Sunday contest at DePaul 1-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the setback, GU slides to 8-2-4 and 4-1-1 in BIG EAST play while DePaul improves to 3-5-5 and 1-1-3 in conference action.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"Soccer can be a cruel game at times and today was one of those times. This is always a tough place to play and the wind picking up it made things next to impossible to play good soccer.

To be fair, we created enough chances and numerous half chances but couldn't put one away. Sadly, the one mistake we made, we got punished for and though we had plenty of time and numerous opportunities after I have to give credit to DePaul. Their kids battled for 90 minutes and defended like their lives depended on it.

I cannot fault my team's commitment or desire to try to rescue something, today just wasn't our day. We have to regroup and now get ready for a trip to Providence on Thursday."

About the Match
  • Georgetown dominated the first 20 minutes of the contest outshooting the Blue Demons 3-0 with all three shots being on goal.
  • GU controlled the first half tallying seven shots, three of which were on frame. GU had the better of the chances in the first 45 minutes despite the score being even at the break.
  • In the 56th minute, a costly giveaway right outside GU's 18-yard box led to DePaul's best opportunity of the game. After beating two defenders, Beth Smyth slotted one to the far post giving the Blue Demons a 1-0 advantage.
  • Georgetown threw numbers forward in an effort to even the score and came close on a point-blank shot from Henley Tippins that the DePaul keeper turned away.
  • The Blue & Gray was unable to mount a comeback despite having six shots in the second half dropping the contest 1-0.
Notable Stats
