WASHINGTON – Georgetown football freshman defensive lineman Isaac Saffold joined 29 other players as part of the 2024 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Watch List, which is presented to the national freshman of the year in college football's Division I subdivision, as announced on Wednesday.

"Isaac is a tenacious competitor. He plays with high energy and passion. I love his relentless pursuit of the football. He is a student of the game who is invested in daily improvement." - Head Coach Rob Sgarlata on Saffold's selection to the Jerry Rice Award Watch List.

  • The freshman has recorded 18 tackles (10 solo, 8 assists), 3.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks.
  • The Chicago native is one of two Patriot League athletes selected to the watch list.
  • The last time a Hoya was named to the Jerry RIce Watch List was Wedner Cadet in 2022.
The Rice Award, now in its 14th season, is named after legendary NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice.  Past recipients include Cooper Kupp, Chase Edmonds, Trey Lance, Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

To be eligible for the Jerry Rice Award, a player must be considered a freshman by his conference in his first academic year or second if he did not surpass four regular-season games played in the true freshman season (the NCAA redshirt rule). More players can join the watch list before a national media panel selects the winner following the regular season.
