Field Hockey Heads to Connecticut for Pair of Games

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey travels to Connecticut for a pair of games this weekend. The Hoyas return to BIG EAST play at Quinnipiac on Friday before facing Sacred Heart in New Haven on Sunday.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (2-6) is coming off a setback to UConn in BIG EAST action in its lone game last week.
  • On the year, Sophie Towne leads the Hoyas with three goals and two assists for eight points while Sydney Yodh has two goals and two assists for six points.
  • Colleen Maloney has two goals and an assist for five points while Elena Leahy adds a goal and two assists for four points.
  • In goal, Bailey Tietz has started the last two games and holds a 3.76 goals-against average with 17 saves and a .680 save percentage. Ella Fahey had started the first six games of the year and has a 3.06 GAA with 53 saves and a .746 save percentage.

  • Friday's game is slated for 2 p.m. in Hamden, Connecticut.

  • The Hoyas last defeated Quinnipiac in 2021 thanks to a pair of Emma van der Veen goals in a 2-1 double overtime victory in the Nation's Capital.
Scouting Sacred Heart
  • Sunday's game is set for 1 p.m. and will be played at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
  • The Pioneers are 3-6 on the year with wins over Mercyhurst, Bryant and Merrimack.
  • Celia Benson leads Sacred Heart with two goals and an assist for five points while Aine Keaney and Amelia Pellegrini both have two goals each for four points.
  • In goal, Samantha Maresca has played every minute this season with a 1.87 GAA, 57 saves and a .760 save percentage.
  • Georgetown and SHU last played in 2022 with the Hoyas winning 3-2 on a penalty stroke in overtime. Towne and van der Veen both scored in the game for the Blue & Gray.
