Thomas Sorber Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's basketball freshman Thomas Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office in New York on Monday. The honor comes after an impressive opening week for the big man and Georgetown who went 2-0 defeating Fairfield 69-57 at Capital One Arena on Saturday. In the season opener, the Blue & Gray tipped off the season with a 85-77 victory over Lehigh at McDonough Arena.

  • In a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, freshman Thomas Sorber averaged a double-double with 22.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg, ranking fourth and first in the BIG EAST, respectively.
  • The Trenton, N.J. native was spectacular in his collegiate debut amassing 20 points and 13 rebounds en route to his first career double-double.
  • On Saturday, Sorber poured in a game-high 25 points to go along with a squad-best nine rebounds to lift the Blue & Gray past Fairfield as the frosh nearly tallied his second double-double in as many games.
  • The freshman's 2.0 blocks per game is a team best and he is also averaging 2.0 steals per game.

The Hoyas will return to action on Saturday, November 16 as GU will host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is slated for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on NBC with John Fanta calling the play-by-play and Donny Marshall providing analysis.
