Hoyas Host Villanova on Friday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is back at home to face the Villanova Wildcats in a BIG EAST matchup on Friday evening. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The Hoyas are coming into the competition following a loss to No. 17/16 Creighton on Tuesday in Omaha and enter Friday's contest at 8-16 on the season with a 1-12 record in BIG EAST action. The Wildcats enter the matchup at 13-11 on the year and a 6-7 record in league play after a home win over Seton Hall on Sunday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off a 94-72 loss at No. 17/16 Creighton on Tuesday. Supreme Cook led the way for the Hoyas with his seventh double-double of the season on squad bests of 19 points and 11 rebounds in the contest. Jayden Epps contributed 17 points, while Dontrez Styles chipped in 13 and Rowan Brumbaugh added 11 off the bench to round out those in double figures.
  • Epps currently sits at fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 17.6 ppg to lead a trio of Hoyas in double figures as Styles chips in 13.5 ppg and Cook adds 11.7 ppg.
  • Cook leads the BIG EAST in offensive boards per game, pulling down 4.0 rpg on the scoring end of the floor, while his 8.2 rpg overall puts him at third in the league. Cook continues to lead the squad in efficiency on the offensive front, knocking down 62.3% (104-167) of his shots, putting him third in the conference in field goal percentage.
  • Epps dishes out 4.3 apg, ranking eighth in the BE, while his 2.3 3-pointers made per game ranks sixth in the league. 
  • The Hoyas are led by Ed Cooley who is in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and his first season with Georgetown. In 2022, Cooley was the recipient of the Naismith Coach of the Year Award, named the Sporting News Coach of the Year, the BIG EAST Coach of the Year, the NABC District 5 Coach of the Year and the USBWA District 1 Coach of the Year.
 
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Villanova is entering Friday's matchup with a 13-11 overall record and a 6-7 mark in BIG EAST action after defeating Seton Hall 80-54 on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center. Eric Dixon led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Brendan Hausen (17), TJ Bamba (14) and Mark Armstrong (12) rounded out those in double figures. Tyler Burton tallied six rebounds and five steals, leading the team defensively.
  • Dixon leads the team in scoring averaging 15.8 ppg, ranking 11th in the league. He is trailed by Bamba who adds 10.5 ppg.
  • Burton leads the team on the boards with his 6.8 rpg overall and 5.3 defensive rebounds per game, seventh in the BIG EAST.
  • Villanova is led by Head Coach Kyle Neptune who is in his second season with the program.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH VILLANOVA
  • Friday's game will be the 95th all-time between the two programs, dating back to 1922. Villanova holds the 49-44 advantage over Georgetown in the series. At home, the Hoyas are 23-20 against the Wildcats.
  • The last meeting between the two programs was at the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament, where Villanova took the first-round victory 80-48 to end the Hoyas' season.
