WASHINGTON – This weekend, Georgetown university's track & field program will be competing at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship on February 23 and 24. The meet will be held at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Indoor Track and Field Center in Chicago.
The Hoyas will compete in 23 events over the two-day championship.

- Friday's action on the track will begin at noon ET with the start of the heptathlon. Friday field events start at 2 p.m. ET, and races begin at 2:45 p.m. and will continue through 6:55 p.m. Saturday's action for both track and field will begin at noon ET.
- Friday's running events will be preliminary trials before the 5,000-meter event and distance medley relays, which will be finals.
About the Men
- The men's track & field team has had a dominant season and will be looking to continue its success, while several Hoyas look to defend titles after capturing first-place finishes at the 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
- Joshua Paige will be looking to win for the third-consecutive year after taking first in the 200m at both the 2022 and 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
- In the 4x800 relay, Owen Johnson, Parker Stokes, Matthew Payamps and Matt Rizzo were crowned 2023 champions after running a blazing time of 7:26.25.
- In last year's championship, the Hoyas grabbed two top-five finishes in the 800m with Abel Teffra finishing third and Payamps finishing in fourth.
- This season, Tinoda Matsatsa set a new NCAA record in the indoor 1,000m (2:18.10) and put up strong performances in the 800m. The freshman was named NCAA Runner of the Week and BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week for his efforts.
- A group of Hoyas, led by Teffra, set a new program record in the men's DMR last week at the Terrier DMR Challenge, earning Teffra a BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week award.
About the Women
- Several Hoyas will be defending titles earned at the 2023 Indoor BIG EAST Championships.
- Last year, Chloe Scrimgeour won the 5,000m at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, and finished eighth in the 5,000m at the NCAA Division I Championships.
- Scrimgeour has been strong recently, setting a new program record in the indoor 3,000m at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational with a time of 8:50.97 and earning herself BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week honors.
- Melissa Riggins will be competing in the 800m. She is a repeat champion, having won the mile last year. She was named the 2023 Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer and grabbed 10 points for GU with a time of 4:37.07.
- Maya Drayton was crowned the 2023 champion in the 400m with a time of 54.44, and will be looking to bring her success to the 200m this year.
