Hoyas Set to Face George Washington and Delaware in Midweek Showdowns

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will square off with George Washington and Delaware in midweek contests this week. GU will take on GW on Tuesday, March 12 with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m. at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park. The Hoyas will then make the trip to Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark, Delaware to face the Blue Hens on Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
 
  • Georgetown (8-6) swept Cornell in a doubleheader on Sunday posting the most runs in a two-game span in program history. GU downed the Big Red 24-6 and 20-0 on Sunday marking the Hoyas first shutout of the 2024 campaign.
  • Last week, GU took No. 1 Wake Forest to the wire dropping a close contest 11-9 on Tuesday in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Hoyas were fueled by 4.1 strong innings on the mound from Everett Catlett who tallied five strikeouts against the No. 1 team in the country.
  • Owen Carapellotti was fantastic for the Hoyas in a 2-1 week, slashing .600/.714/.900. The junior tallied six runs scored, six hits, one double, one triple and four RBIs. Carapellotti also chipped in three walks and one hit by pitch across the three games.
  • Christian Ficca was once again dominant for GU at the plate slashing .583/.667/1.083. Ficca tallied seven hits, six runs scored, two home runs and eight RBIs along with two walks and a hit by pitch.
  • The Hoyas are second in the BIG EAST in batting average (.298), tied for first double plays (15), second in doubles (32), first in the conference in hit by pitch (27), first in hits (145), second in hits allowed per nine innings (9.15), second in on base percentage (.418), second in runs (119), second in scoring (8.5 rpg), tied for first in shutouts (1), second in slugging percentage (.500) and first in triples (6).
  • Andrew Williams leads the conference in ERA with a 1.15 ERA which ranks 15th in the nation. Ficca is second in the conference in hits with 24 and is 33rd in the nation in RBIs with 23. Jake Hyde leads the conference in home runs with five.
 
ABOUT GEORGE WASHINGTON
  • GW (8-7) is coming off a 1-2 weekend as the Colonials dropped two out of three to Canisius.
  • Ellis Schwartz leads GW at the plate slashing .347/.467/.469 on the season. Schwartz has 17 hits, three doubles, one home run and 10 RBIs to go with nine walks and two hit by pitches.
  • On the mound, Teddy Brennan leads the Colonials with a 1-1 record and a 3.92 ERA. Brennan has seen 20.2 innings of action this season and has allowed 21 hits, nine earned runs and has struck out 22.
 
ABOUT DELAWARE
  • Delaware (8-6) is coming off a 2-1 weekend where the Blue Hens took the series against Quinnipiac.
  • At the plate, Jake Dunion leads Delaware slashing .347/.439/.551. Dunion has 17 hits, four doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs to go with seven walks on the season.
  • Eli Atiya leads the Blue Hens on the bump with a 1-0 record and a 0.64 ERA in 14 innings of action. Atiya has allowed five hits, one earned run and has struck out 18.
