WASHINGTON – After another stellar day of racing, Georgetown university's track & field program concluded the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday. Georgetown finished in 21st place on the men's side with 12.0 points, and 23rd on the women's side with 9.0 points.
ON THE RECORD
"We've had many great and memorable moments in Georgetown track & field history, and this weekend certainly added to that legacy of success exhibited by our program. Coming away with All-America recognition is always a goal and we're proud to see that achieved today with Abel finishing fifth in the Mile. He ran a smart tactical race and rallied to earn his place in his first NCAA indoor final.
Melissa Riggins also ran marvelously in the women's mile to break her own school record - an impressive 4:29.02.
Chloe Scrimgeour definitely showed she is one of the top distance runners in the country, closing out a tough double finishing seventh in the 3,000m after last night's seventh-place finish in the 5,000m. To say we closed out the indoor season on a high note would be an understatement. It was a great weekend for Hoya track & field."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Melissa Riggins finished fourth in the mile final with a time of 4:29.02. Heading into the bell lap, Riggins took advantage of the group separation and leaned at the line to edge out Virginia's Margot Appleton to take fourth, recording a split of 31.60 over the final 200 meters, the second fastest among the field. Her efforts earned Georgetown another five points, and the mark is her personal best and a new program record.
- Abel Teffra took fifth place in the mile final after a close race in which Teffra made his final kick coming out of the last turn. Leaning at the line, Teffra finished with a time of 4:02.57 to secure an additional four points for the Hoyas.
- Riggins was back in action in the women's 3,000m finals alongside teammate Chloe Scrimgeour, who took seventh in the women's 5,000m finals on Friday night. A race that saw four competitors not make it all the way through as well as a meet record being set, Riggins and Scrimgeour were steady throughout. As a lead pack formed, Scrimgeour remained steady in the chase pack. On the bell lap, Scrimgeour picked off Oregon's Maddy Elmore for seventh place, clocking 8:57.28. She split 33.49 in the closing 200 meters, the second-fastest split over the final 200 and only behind Riggins' 32.98. Riggins took 11th place with a time of 9:15.87.
OF NOTE
- Riggins' 4:29.02 is a new school record. She bested her own record of 4:30.73, set in January at the Penn State National Open.
- With a fifth-place finish in the men's mile, Teffra recorded the best finish in the event at an NCAA meet since the 1996 Indoor Championships when Andy Downin finished fifth clocking 4:04.32.
- Scrimgeour's seventh-place finish was the best finish for a Hoya since 2016 when Katrina Coogan took third in the event with a time of 9:07.74.
- With a pair of Hoyas in the 3,000m finals in Scrimgeour and Riggins, it was the first time since 2015 when Coogan and Samantha Nadel were both in the field. That year, Coogan took fourth and Nadel was 11th.
- The women's team tied Providence for 23rd with 9.0 points with both squads tying for the best finish from a BIG EAST team. Villanova was also in the field, finishing 48th with 2.5 points.
- Of the three BIG EAST teams on the men's side, the Hoyas were second among them with 12.0 points to finish 21st. Villanova tied for 19th with 13 points while DePaul's 2.0 points was enough to finish 51st.
