WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach
Rob Sgarlata has announced on Wednesday that Gary Ramey Jr. will be joining the 2024 coaching staff as the team's new running backs coach.
"Our Hoya football family is very excited to welcome Gary Ramey and his family to our coaching staff," said Sgarlata. "The people make our place special. Gary is a talented and detail oriented teacher with a passion for coaching and recruiting. I am looking forward to the next step in his coaching journey."
Ramey joins the Hoyas after spending the last four seasons coaching wide receivers, running backs and tight ends at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia. Ramey oversaw the running backs during his first three seasons before transitioning to wide receivers in 2023. In his first season as a coach (2020-21), Demetreus Jalepes was a first team running back selection at both the All-State and All-ODAC levels. The Maryland native also coordinated Bridgewater's recruiting during his time on the staff.
Before joining the coaching staff, Ramey was a linebacker and two-time team captain for Bridgewater. As a senior Ramey was a first team All-State selection, leading Eagles to the ODAC championship and a final #20 national ranking in 2019. He ranked second on the team in tackles (82), sacks (5.0) and tackles for loss (11.0). A three-time All-ODAC linebacker, Ramey earned second team honors as a sophomore and junior before making first team All-Conference as a senior. He graduated with 195 career tackles, 9.0 sacks, 21.5 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles.
"I am extremely excited to take the next step in my coaching journey at such a historical place like Georgetown," said Ramey. "Growing up not far away in Frederick County, Maryland, Georgetown has always been a place I have been eager to learn more about and I am fortunate to now be a part of the football program. Coach Sgarlata and the entire staff has been extremely welcoming with me, and I am eager to further grow and build relationships here in the Nation's Capital."
