Georgetown Track & Field Collects 23 All-BIG EAST Honors

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field team collected 23 All-BIG EAST honors following the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships held May 9-11 at Villanova Stadium on VU's campus. The three day-meet saw the Hoya women take fourth place with 114 points while the men's squad placed fifth with 80 points.
 
HOYAS X ALL-BIG EAST
  • The Hoyas tallied 23 All-BIG EAST nods across the men's and women's teams with 14 women earning the honor and nine men achieving the accolade.
  • On the women's side 12 athletes picked up 14 honors in eight different events, including Melissa Riggins and Abbie Huey, who were the two multi-honor athletes, earning All-BIG EAST in both an individual event and a relay.
  • On the men's side, nine athletes tallied nine honors in five different events.
  • The Hoyas were represented well in a wide variety of events, including sprints, jumps, middle distance, distance, hurdles and relays.
  • Georgetown totaled five event titles from the three-day championship with four from the women and one from the men. The conference meet featured a pair of facility and BIG EAST Championship records from GU in the women's 1,500-meter run and the women's 10,000-meter run.
  • Riggins set a Villanova Stadium and BIG EAST Championships record when she clocked 4:08.82 in the 1,500-meter finals for her seventh overall BIG EAST title and third from the outdoor season.
  • Chloe Scrimgeour also set the Villanova Stadium and BIG EAST Championships record when she ran 32:36.25 in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday night. The title marked her third league title after she swept the indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter runs a season ago.
  • All-BIG EAST honors go to those who turn in a podium finish (top three) in a finals event at the BIG EAST Championships.
