HOW IT HAPPENED
- The men's 800-meter run saw a trio of Hoyas automatically advance to Friday's quarterfinals. In the second heat, All-American Tinoda Matsatsa clocked 1:48.27, holding his position for the entirety of the bell lap to earn an automatic spot.
- The third heat of the 800m first round saw a pair of Hoyas wait for the right moment to strike. Freshman Gabriele Angiono was on the chase as Mississippi State's Tyrese Reid took the lead to start. After 400 meters, the pack consumed the leader and Angiono took a solid position inside as teammate and All-American Tim McInerney made his move on the outside. McInerney closed in 55.43 over the final 400 meters as Angiono timed in at 1:49.39 and McInerney was on his shoulder at 1:49.46, both earning automatic spots to the quarterfinals.
- Running in the fastest of a four-heat 1,500m first round, All-American Camden Gilmore recorded an automatic qualifying time of 3:42.22. His heat saw a new facility record at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Facility. Lucas Guerra also competed in the heat, clocking. 3:51.90.
- Competing in the third heat of the 1,500m, All-American Abel Teffra easily qualified for Friday's quarterfinal with a time of 3:43.60. Coming off the final turn, Teffra was among the top five and peaking over his shoulder, he coasted through the final straightaway with an automatic qualifying mark.
- A sophomore competing in his first NCAA East Preliminary Championship, Nicholas Givan lined up in the 400m hurdles. He managed a time of 54.30 in the heat, which was not enough to advance to Friday's quarterfinals.
