Hoyas Host UMBC in Final Contest at Capital One Park

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will host UMBC on Tuesday, May 7 in the Hoyas final game at Capital One Park this season. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown (29-16) is coming off an 0-3 week as the Hoyas dropped contests to James Madison (13-12), George Mason (13-2) and Penn State (7-2).
  • Christian Ficca leads GU at the plate slashing .348/.463/.596 on the season. Ficca leads the team in hits with 62, is second in doubles with 14, is tied for the team lead in home runs (10) and leads the team in RBIs with 57 on the season.
  • On the mound, Andrew Williams and Everett Catlett lead the Hoyas combining for a 9-3 record on the season. Williams boasts a 2.72 ERA, a mark good for first in the conference. The junior has pitched 49.2 innings on the season and has allowed only 15 earned runs while striking out 41. Catlett boasts a 5-1 record and a 2.98 ERA. Catlett has tossed 63.1 innings this season allowing 21 earned runs while striking out 70.  
  • Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in base on balls (245) a mark good for 55th nationally. GU leads the conference in double plays (43) which ranks 16th nationally, hits (463) good for 76th in the country, runs (352) and slugging percentage (.475). The Blue & Gray are tied for second in WHIP (1.47) and second in walks allowed per nine innings (4.59).
ABOUT UMBC
  • UMBC (21-19) enters the contest after sweeping Maine this weekend. UMBC swept the Black Bears 7-1, 15-1 and 4-2 in the three-game set.
  • Kyle Eddington leads UMBC at the plate, slashing .328/.473/.358 on the season. Eddington has tallied 22 hits, two doubles, and 16 RBIs.
  • On the mound, Sam Downs leads UMBC with a 4-0 record and a 2.39 ERA. Downs has tossed 52.2 innings and has allowed only 14 earned runs while striking out 40.

The Hoyas will be back in action this weekend as GU hosts Xavier in a three-game series at the University of Maryland. Game one of the series is slated for Friday, May 10 with first pitch coming at 6 p.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
