WASHINGTON – This weekend, the Georgetown university track & field program will compete in the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 9-11. The meet will be held on the campus of Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania..
The Hoyas will compete in 29 events over the three-day championship.

- Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports.
- The Hoyas will begin action with the 10k races at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening. Friday's action will begin at 12:30 p.m., and Saturday's will begin at noon.
- Friday's running events will be preliminary trials before the 5,000-meter and steeplechase events, which will be finals.
ABOUT THE MEN
- The men's track & field team will be taking its strong performance this season into the postseason, with three Hoya men defending last year's BIG EAST titles.
- Joshua Paige will be looking to win for the third-consecutive year in both the 100m and the 200m, after taking first in both at the 2022 and 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
- On April 20, Paige broke the long standing program record in the 200m with a 20.61 finish.
- At the Penn Relays, middle and distance runners Abel Teffra, Camden Gilmore, Parker Stokes and Lucas Guerra broke the American record in the 4xMile with a 15:52.56 finish, with Teffra running a 3:54.26 anchor leg to secure third place. The squad will be taking their speed into events this weekend.
- Stokes is the reigning 3000m steeplechase champion and will be looking to defend his title for the fourth-consecutive year in the event. On April 24, Stokes was named BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week after taking fifth place in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Virginia Challenge with an 8:26.61 time. He also earned BIG EAST weekly honors on April 10, after taking first place in the 1500m at the George Mason Dalton Ebanks Invitational (3:43.16).
- This season, Teffra picked up BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week honors on April 17 for his personal-best time of 3:38.25 in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational. At last year's 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, Teffra had a third-place showing (1:51.33) in the 800-meter run.
ABOUT THE WOMEN
- After an already solid outdoor season, three Hoya women will be defending titles earned at the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
- Melissa Riggins has been hot this season, and the defending 800m BIG EAST Champion will be looking to continue her success after taking the title last year with a 2:05.27 finish.
- Riggins earned BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week honors twice this season. The first honor came after Riggins became the top collegian in the 1500m with her personal-best time of 4:07.96 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 13. Her time is still tied for third nationally.
- Riggins picked up her second weekly award of the season after setting a new program record in the 800m with a time of 2:01.97 at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 19. Her time is currently ranked 12th nationally.
- Chloe Scrimgeour will be looking to defend her 5000m title earned at the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with a time of 15:50.62.
- Scrimgeour has been strong recently, taking second place in the 5000m with a time of 15:29.87 at the Wake Forest Invitational, the second-best finish in the event in program history only to Olympian Emily Infeld's 2012 record of 15:28.60.
- Jadah Fitzgerald, Rebecca Ochan, Piper Rodgers and Abbie Huey took first place in the college section of the 4x100m at the Penn Relays, running a time of 45.68.
- The Hoya relay runners also saw success this season with an SMR squad of Ochan, Huey, Kaira Brown and Riggins setting a new program record in the event with a mark of 3:46.45 at the Penn Relays.
- Looking to the postseason, Georgetown's 4x400m squad will be looking to defend the title after winning at the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Hoyas Renee Newton, KC Ashiogwu, Fitzgerald and Maya Drayton ran a mark of 3:44.32 for gold.
