Jake Bloss Set to Make MLB Debut Against Orioles

WASHINGTON – Georgetown's Jake Bloss has been called up by the Houston Astros from the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks the organization announced on Thursday. Bloss will skip Triple-A and is set to make his major league debut on Friday, June 21 as the Astros face the Orioles at Minute Maid Park at 8:10 p.m.
 
Bloss is the third pitcher from the 2023 MLB Draft to make it to the majors following Paul Skenes and Hurston Waldrep.
 
Bloss has had a fantastic season in Double-A this year boasting a 3-1 record and a 1.61 ERA across 44.2 innings of action. The right-handed pitcher has been sensational, allowing only 19 hits, 11 runs and eight earned runs while striking out 35 and he has held opponents to a .127 batting average against, with Corpus Christi this season. In his most recent outing, Bloss threw a combined no-hitter tossing 6.1 hitless innings marking the first time a no-hitter was thrown in Hooks history.
 
The Greensboro, North Carolina native was taken 99th overall in the 2023 MLB Draft making him the highest draft pick in Georgetown history. Bloss was dominant during 2023 garnering BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year Honors while being the lone unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Bloss was named a second and third team All-American as well after a remarkable final collegiate season.
 
Bloss will be the third Hoya to make it to the MLB in the modern draft era dating back to 1965. He is the first Hoya to play in the MLB since Tim Adleman who was selected in the 24th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. The right-handed pitcher made his MLB Debut on May 1, 2016 for the Cincinnati Reds and made 43 appearances in his MLB career 33 of which were starts.
