WASHINGTON – On the first day of the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Georgetown University's
Parker Stokes advanced to his third steeplechase finals in four years. The four-day championship is being held June 5-8 at Hayward Field on the campus of University of Oregon in Eugene.
ON THE RECORD
"
Parker Stokes navigated his prelim like a veteran. I'm very excited with what he can in the final. Gabri ended up in the heat that went out slow and dealing with that as a freshman is hard. He has had a great freshman year and it will continue when he gets back to Italy. Parker is ready to represent Georgetown well on Friday." - Assistant Track & Field Coach / Head Men's Cross Country Coach

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the third time in four years, All-American Parker Stokes advanced to the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase finals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The graduate student clocked 8:32.95 to finish third in the first of a two-heat semifinal. His time was an automatic qualifier as he was among the lead pack through the entirety of the race. Over the final 400 meters, Stokes turned in the third-fastest split on the bell lap to earn a spot in Friday's final.
- In the men's 800-meter run, freshman Gabriele Angiono competed in the third of a three-heat semifinal. He placed seventh in his heat with a time of 1:50.75 and took 23rd overall, which was not enough to advance to Friday's final.
