WASHINGTON - Georgetown men's track and field student-athlete
Joshua Paige was chosen as one of the winners of the 2023-24 BIG EAST Michael Tranghese Postgraduate Leadership Award, as selected by the BIG EAST Conference Academic Affairs Committee.
Â
The awards are given to one male and one female student-athlete from a BIG EAST-sponsored sport who have been admitted to a degree-granting or professional program for the following academic year and who have demonstrated leadership through excellence in academic credentials, athletic performance and depth of commitment to service within the institution or the community.
Â
Paige will each receive a $5,000 scholarship, which may be applied to postgraduate study. The award is named for Michael Tranghese, the BIG EAST's first full-time employee who served as commissioner of the conference from 1990 to 2009 and embodied leadership and dedication from the league's inception.
Â
Paige is the first Georgetown student-athlete to receive this honor. He is pursuing a graduate degree in the global real assets program at the McDonough School of Business in the fall.
Â
Paige, from Glenn Dale, Maryland, completed his undergraduate degree in finance with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average at Georgetown. Off the track, he is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic team member. Making a difference in the community, Paige has participated in the First-Generation Investors volunteer club that tutors high school students in financial literacy in the DC area. Competitively, Paige is an eight-time BIG EAST Champion (Indoor: 200m – 2022, 2023, 2024; Outdoor: 100m – 2022, 2023, 200m – 2022, 2023 and 4x100m – 2021) and the school record holder in the indoor 200m and 300m events, as well as the outdoor 200m. In 2023, Paige was named both the BIG EAST Men's Indoor and Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer.
Â
On the women's side, Seton Hall swimming and diving standout Josephine McCartney earned the honor. McCartney is the sixth Seton Hall student-athlete to earn the award. She will be attending the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine where she will be earning a medical degree.
