Georgetown Men’s Basketball Hosts No. 9 UConn On Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is back in the District to take on No. 9 Connecticut on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Capital One Arena and the game will be broadcast on FOX. The Blue & Gray enters Saturday's contest with a 12-3 record overall and a 3-1 mark in league action following a 74-66 loss at No. 7/6 Marquette on Tuesday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • On Tuesday, the Hoyas came up short against the No. 7 Marquette Golden Eagles 74-66 at Fiserv Forum. Malik Mack led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with 18 points, including a trio of 3-pointers. Micah Peavy chipped in 13 while Thomas Sorber and Curtis Williams Jr. rounded out those in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Sorber added a squad-best 13 rebounds to tally his fifth double-double of the season.
  • Sorber leads a quartet of Hoyas in double figures, averaging 15.1 ppg, good enough to rank 10th in the BIG EAST. Jayden Epps chips in 14.7 ppg, followed by Mack (14.0) and Peavy (13.3). With all four ranking among the top 30 in scoring in the BIG EAST, Georgetown joins Marquette as the only institutions with a quartet among the league's top 30.
  • Sorber leads the squad on the glass grabbing 8.4 rpg, which leads the league, followed by Drew Fielder (5.8 rpg) and Peavy (5.0 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense dishing out 4.8 apg with Peavy right behind him with 4.1 apg.
  • Peavy is tied for 18th in the country and ranks second in the BIG EAST in steals per game, picking 2.4 pockets per game.
  • Sorber has five double-doubles to his name, tied for second in the league. His five double-doubles is tied for third nationally among freshmen.
  • Defensively, the team ranks third in the league in steals per game (8.6). The Hoyas are forcing opponents to commit 14.33 turnovers per game, which ranks third in the conference.
  • In league games, Georgetown leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, boasting an impressive 50.9% shooting efficiency.
  • On Monday, Sorber was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season after averaging 17.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg and 3.0 bpg in a pair of games while Mack was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Mack tallied 20.5 ppg while dishing out 7.0 apg.
 
ABOUT THE No. 9/10 UCONN HUSKIES
  • In its most recent outing, UConn fell 68-66 at Villanova to slip to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play heading into Saturday's matchup. Solo Ball led a quartet of Huskies in double figures with 16 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the field and 4-for-10 from behind the arc. Jaylin Stewart followed with 14 points while Hassan Diarra and Alex Karaban rounded out those in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Ball, Diarra and Samson Johnson led UConn on the glass with four rebounds apiece, while Diarra also paced the offense with nine assists.
  • Karaban leads the Huskies in scoring averaging 15.9 ppg. Liam McNeeley and Ball follow up averaging 13.6 ppg apiece while Tarris Reed Jr. chips in 10.6 ppg.
  • Reed Jr. leads the Huskies on the glass with 7.6 rpg, followed by McNeeley (5.8 rpg) and Karaban (5.0 rpg).
  • Diarra paces the offense, dishing out 6.7 apg, which leads the conference.
  • UConn is led by Dan Hurley in his seventh season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES WITH UCONN
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 75th all-time meeting between the two teams dating back to the 1958-59 season.
  • Georgetown trails 36-38 in the all-time series. The Blue & Gray's last victory over the Huskies came on January 14, 2017, with a 72-69 win at Capital One Arena.
