No. 14/20 Georgetown Welcomes UConn on Saturday

WASHINGTON - The No. 14/20 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday evening in a BIG EAST Conference matchup under the lights at Shaw Field. The contest will be the second of the doubleheader with the women. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Georgetown alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action in their 21st season in the booth.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (6-3-3, 2-0-1) is coming off of a tough 2-1 loss to the University of Denver Pioneers on Tuesday evening at Shaw Field in the team's nonconference finale.
  • GU senior Zach Zengue scored an early PK, but the Pios quickly matched it and then tallied a goal in the 89th minute to give GU its first loss since August.
  • For his efforts last week in a 0-0 draw at Seton Hall, junior Matthew Helfrich was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
  • It marked the first weekly award of his career.
  • Zengue is leading the squad in scoring with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points on the season. He is fifth in the nation in total goals, and is fifth in the country in points.
  • Sophomore Mitchell Baker is second in goals with four on the season, while junior Matthew Van Horn leads the squad in assists with six which ranks him 11th in the nation in helpers.
  • Senior Tenzing Manske has played 1,035 minutes in the goal and has a 0.83 goals-against average as well as six shutouts and 24 saves.
About the Huskies
  • UConn is currently 7-2-3 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The squad is coming off of a 3-0 victory against Creighton on Friday, October 3 as three second-half goals gave the Huskies the victory.
  • Austin Brummett is leading the way with six goals and two assists for 14 points on the season. He is followed by Balthazar Saunders with three goals and four assists on the year.
  • The Huskies were selected to finish fourth in the East Division in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Poll.
