Georgetown Men’s Basketball Travels to 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to compete in the 2025 Terry's Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational, a 16-team, three-bracket event set for Thanksgiving week at Walt Disney World Resort's State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Hoyas will compete in the MAGIC BRACKET that also includes BYU, Dayton and Miami. The first game will be on Thursday, November 27 when the Hoyas face Dayton in the semifinal game. Tipoff in the Sunshine State is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The second matchup will be on Friday, November 28 with the time and opponent to be determined by the semifinals.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The 2025-26 season marks the third year under Head Coach Ed Cooley. In his second season, Cooley guided Georgetown to doubling its wins from the season before and finishing with an overall record of 18-16 and 8-12 in BIG EAST play. The squad earned a bid to the inaugural College Basketball Crown, advancing to the semifinals before falling to eventual Crown Champions Nebraska.
  • In the last outing, Georgetown defeated Wagner 92-75. Malik Mack led five Hoyas in double figures with 18 points on six made field goals, including 4-for-7 from deep, while adding two rebounds and a game-high five assists. Julius Halaifonua followed with a career-best 16 points and a career-high nine boards. Caleb Williams added 15 points and five rebounds, Isaiah Abraham posted a career-high 12 on an efficient 4-for-5 outing, and KJ Lewis finished with 10 points and five assists.
  • A quartet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 17.2 ppg, while Mack averages 15.4 ppg, Vince Iwuchukwu manages 11.8 ppg and C. Williams notches 11.4 ppg.
  • Lewis leads the Hoyas on the glass with 6.4 rpg, followed by C. Williams with 4.8 rpg, while Halaifonua and Iwuchukwu average 4.0 rpg.
  • Mack paces the offense with 3.8 apg, followed closely by Jeremiah Williams with 3.0 apg and Lewis with 2.4 apg.
  • Lewis leads in strips with 2.8 spg while Kayvaun Mulready tallies 2.5 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
ABOUT THE FLYERS
  • Dayton enters the matchup with a 5-1 start to the 2025-26 season.
  • The Flyers closed the 2024-25 season with a 23-11 record and a 12-6 mark in A10 action. The Flyers reached the second round of the 2024 NIT.
  • Dayton won the ESPN Events Invitational in 2011 and 2021, and reached the championship game in 2015.
  • In its last outing, Dayton defeated North Carolina Central 74–55 on Saturday afternoon at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Junior De'Shayne Montgomery paced the Flyers with 17 points, redshirt freshman Malcolm Thomas followed with a career-best 12, sophomore Amaël L'Etang added 11 and senior Jacob Conner contributed 10 points alongside six rebounds.
  • Javon Bennet commands the Flyer offense averaging 16.7 ppg. Montgomery follows with 15.2 ppg and Amaël L'Etang rounds out the Flyers averaging double figures in scoring with 12.7 ppg.
  • L'Etang leads on the glass with 7.0 rpg while Keonte Jones manages 5.2 rpg and Montgomery averages 4.5 rpg.
  • Jordan Derkack and Bennet pace the Flyer offense averaging 3.8 assists per game.
  • The Flyers are led by Head Coach Anthony Grant in his ninth season.
  • Georgetown is 2-1 all-time against the Flyers with the last meeting coming in the Elite Eight of the 1984 NCAA Championship, a 61-49 win.
  • Cooley has faced Dayton once in his career, a 66-53 setback against the Flyers in the 2015 NCAA Tournament First Round.
 
ABOUT THE No. 9 COUGARS
  • BYU enters the matchup with a 4-1 start to the 2025-26 season. The team was ranked No. 9 in the week four AP Top 25 poll.
  • The Cougars closed the 2024-25 season reaching its first NCAA Sweet 16 since 2011, posting a 26-10 record and a 14-6 mark in Big 12 play. The Cougars finished tied for third in their debut season in the Big 12.
  • In its last outing, BYU defeated No. 23 Wisconsin 98-70 on Friday afternoon at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Richie Saunders led the Cougars with 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting and 5-for-9 from deep, including 15 after halftime. AJ Dybantsa added 18 points with 11 coming from the charity stripe. Robert Wright III posted his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-high 11 assists.
  • BYU welcomed the top-ranked recruit in ESPN's Top 100 for the Class of 2025, Dybantsa of Brockton, Massachusetts out of Utah Prep.
  • Saunders leads a trio of Cougars that are averaging double figures with 20.8 ppg. Dybantsa follows closely with 19.8 ppg and Wright III rounds out the squad with 16.2 ppg.
  • Dybantsa controls the glass for the Wildcats with 6.6 rpg while Saunders (5.6) and Keba Keita (5.4) follow.
  • Wright III paces the BYU offense dishing out 5.6 apg.
  • The Cougars are led by Head Coach Kevin Young in his second season.
  • The Hoyas are 1-0 against BYU with a matchup during the 1983-84 season that saw the Hoyas win 67-51 at home. Cooley has never faced BYU.
 
ABOUT THE HURRICANES
  • Miami enters the matchup with a 5-1 start to the 2025-26 season.
  • The Hurricanes closed the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 7-24 and a 3-17 mark in ACC play.
  • In its last outing, Miami defeated Delaware State 97-41 on Sunday afternoon in Coral Gables, Florida. Tre Donaldson and Malik Reneau powered the effort with 24 and 21 points, respectively, combining to shoot a perfect 18-for-18 from the field. Reneau also grabbed 10 boards for his third double-double of the year, while Salih Altuntas tallied his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, along with four assists.
  • Reneau leads a quartet of Hurricanes averaging in double figures with 21.5 ppg. Donaldson (16.8), Tru Washington (14.8) and Shelton Henderson (11.8) round out the squad in double-figure scoring.
