Georgetown Advances to the BIG EAST Championship

Box Score WASHINGTON – The number one-seeded Georgetown women's soccer team downed the number four-seeded Creighton BlueJays 2-0 on Thursday night. With the win, the Hoyas advance to the BIG EAST Championships Final on Sunday, November 9. GU will play in the BIG EAST Championships Final, looking to capture its fourth title in the last five years.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This was every bit the game we thought it was going to be. When you play the team for the second time, usually the team who lost the first game changes things and does things differently, where, if you've won the game, you tend to just continue doing what you did the first time around. So they changed a couple of things today with their personnel, and they definitely adopted a lower block and tried to kind of sit in and defend and tried to take away spaces from us, and then try to catch us on a counter attack, which they got a couple of half moments. But I thought our back three and our two sixes did a really good job of kind of snuffing things out before it went to the final moment for them. I thought even with everything else, I thought, we created a number of good chances. Probably a little bit unlucky not to have another one or two. But their goalkeeper was excellent tonight. She made a couple of really good saves. So we're excited now to move on. Congratulations to Jimmy and his kids for getting to the tournament. I know that this was a goal of theirs. Now, our goal is to try and win the tournament on Sunday against a very, very dangerous Xavier team. And it should be a fun game, because you do have the two best teams in the conference playing for a championship, and last week when we played, we came out on top. But my kids are under no illusions about how difficult the game is going to be on Sunday, so it'll probably come down to who takes their chances and who defends well. But we're excited for the challenge, and we're excited for the NCAA Tournament Draw on Monday and beyond."
