Teffra Named Regional Track Athlete of the Year, Bonsey Honored as Regional Assistant Coach of the Year

WASHINGTON – Following their performances this season, Abel Teffra and Brandon Bonsey have been recognized as the Mid-Atlantic Region's top track and field talents, with Teffra earning Men's Track Athlete of the Year and Bonsey honored as Assistant Coach of the Year, as announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

"I am incredibly proud of the indoor season that the team had. We were extremely consistent all season and really showed up in the moments that mattered most. All of those guys earning All-American honors should be very proud of the hard work that they put in to get here. I don't coach for individual honors but to have my peers recognize what we accomplished this winter is beyond flattering. " Assistant Coach Brandon Bonsey

"Coach Bonsey has been responsible for the Georgetown men's record books being rewritten in all middle distance events during this indoor season so this award comes as no surprise. Abel Teffra exemplifies what it means to be a part of our Georgetown program having developed over time and blossoming into his true potential to become the NCAA champion in a new meet record time. I couldn't be prouder of him and all that he represents for our program and the legacy of success he has now contributed to. Congrats to both on their outstanding accomplishment and we're excited to see what's in store for the rest of the season." Head Coach Alton McKenzie

Abel Teffra - Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year
Teffra, a native of Fresno, California, claimed the mile title with a meet-record time of 3:53.60 at the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Championships. Earlier in the season, he set a personal best in the mile with a time of 3:52.44 at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational and recorded the second-fastest 1000-meter time in collegiate history at 2:17.39 during the Nittany Lion Challenge.

Brandon Bonsey - Mid-Atlantic Region Assistant Coach of the Year
In his 12th year as an assistant coach at Georgetown, Bonsey guided the Hoya mid-distance and distance runners to six All-America honors at the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Championships. This included a meet-record victory in the mile by Teffra and a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters by Tinoda Matsatsa.
