Baseball Faces UMBC in Three-Game Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will face UMBC in a three-game series this weekend with game one scheduled for Friday, March 28 in Baltimore, Maryland. Games two and three of the series are slated for Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown enters the weekend series with a 9-16 record after securing a 4-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday afternoon. Johan Franco picked up his second win of the season on the bump tossing 5.0 innings while allowing four hits and one run while punching out six. 
  • Kavi Caster was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after a sensational week for the Blue & Gray. Caster slashed .727/.667/.909 in four games while tallying eight hits, a triple, two RBIs and two walks. The Crofton, Maryland native chipped in five stolen bags on the week, a mark that led the team. 
  • Blake Schaaf paces the Hoya offense slashing .350/.448/.525 on the season. The sophomore is tied for the team lead in doubles (6), is second on the squad in triples (1) and leads the team on the base path with 20 stolen bags on the campaign, a mark that ranks ninth nationally. 
  • Andrew Williams and JT Raab lead the Hoyas on the mound both boasting a 2-1 record. In 28 innings of action, Williams has posted a 2.25 ERA, a mark that leads the BIG EAST while Raab has posted a 3.31 ERA in 32.2 innings of action. Raab leads the squad in strikeouts with 30 while Williams follows closely behind with 25 to his credit. 
  • Georgetown ranks fourth nationally in stolen bases with 79 on the season. GU trails VMI (139), Wofford (94) and Mount St. Mary's (84). 
  • The Blue & Gray rank top three in the BIG EAST in base on balls (128), ERA (6.32), runs (173), sacrifice bunts (17), sacrifice flies (17), scoring (6.9), shutouts (1), stolen bases (79), stolen bases per game (3.16) and strikeouts per nine innings (7.8). 
 
ABOUT UMBC
  • UMBC enters the weekend series with a 6-12 record after getting swept by NJIT last weekend. The Retrievers fell 7-6, 8-4 and 11-3. 
  • Jesiah Carpenter leads UMBC at the dish, slashing .286/.427/.429 on the season. Carpenter has recorded 19 runs, 18 hits, three triples, two home runs and nine RBIs. 
  • On the mound, Nick Remy leads the Retrievers with a 2-0 record and a 2.03 ERA in 13.1 innings of action this season. Remy has allowed three earned runs while punching out 14 and has limited opponents to a .104 batting average.
