Men’s Tennis to Face DePaul in BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team finished the regular season tabbed as the No. 5 seed in the BIG EAST Championships in Cayce, South Carolina. With the No. 5 seed, the Hoyas will face the No. 4 DePaul Blue Demons in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championships on Friday, April 18. The Hoyas finished the year off with a record of 8-12 with a 3-4 mark in conference action.

  • Georgetown finished the regular season with a record of 8-12 and 3-4 in BIG EAST matches.
  • To cap off the regular season this past weekend, the Hoyas picked up a pair of wins over William & Mary (4-0) and at Villanova (4-1).
  • Over the weekend, the Hoyas took two out of three doubles matches against both opponents, with the duos of Jake Fellows/Arthur O'Sullivan (No. 1) and Burke Pablo/James O'Sullivan (No. 3) both going 2-0.
  • In singles matches, Akira Morgenstern and Sahil Morey both went 2-0, while Fellows, Adhvyte Sharma and Pablo each tallied one singles win each.
  • In the spring season, Fellows, Morgenstern, Morey and Sharma are all tied for the team lead in singles wins with eight. Fellows has picked up all eight of his singles wins in No. 1 matches.
  • In doubles matches, the duo of Fellows/Arthur O'Sullivan leads the team with 10 doubles victories while Morgenstern/Sharma and Pablo/James O'Sullivan are each tied with six wins.
  • In last year's BIG EAST Championships, the No. 3 Georgetown Hoyas defeated No. 6 Xavier in the Quarterfinals, 4-0 before dropping a close one to No. 2 DePaul (4-3). 
  • Georgetown is led by Freddy Mesmer, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Hoyas. He is assisted by Diana Kussianova.

  • DePaul finished the regular season with a 13-10 record and an 4-2 mark in conference action.
  • The Blue Demons came up short at Butler, 5-2, before defeating Xavier (4-3) in Cincinnati, Ohio.
  • In the spring, Pablo Torres Almeida, Andy Hadziabdic and Marko Milosavljevic are all tied for the team lead in singles wins with 12 each.
  • In doubles matches, the duo of Milosavljevic/Matteo Iaquinto lead the Hoyas with seven doubles wins.
  • The Blue Demons are the reigning BIG EAST Champions, defeating No. 7 Villanova, No. 3 Georgetown and No. 1 St. John's in the BIG EAST Championships to clinch a bid to NCAA Regionals.
