Georgetown Women’s Golf to Compete at BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team opens the postseason portion of the schedule at the 2025 BIG EAST Championships, presented by Jeep, on April 19-21. The 54-hole tournament will be held across three days in Hardeeville, South Carolina on the par-72 course at Riverton Pointe Golf and Country Club.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown is coming off a third-place finish at the Terps Invitational, a three-round tournament hosted by the University of Maryland. The Blue & Gray put together the best team score from the third round to move up four spots and take third place overall. With a three-round score of 21-over 885 (299-293-293), the Hoyas were one stroke behind High Point and one stroke ahead of the host Terrapins on the par-72, 6,244-yard course at the University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Maryland.
 
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgia Ruffolo is at the top of the lineup. The senior has played in all 27 rounds of golf thus far this season and owns a season-best 74.15 stroke average to go along with 2.52 birdies and a squad-best 10.78 pars per round. The co-captain has managed five rounds under par and one round of even par for the year with a trio of under-par rounds coming during the spring season. Over the year, the Tampa product has turned in a pair of top-three performances, finishing as the runner-up at the Blue Hen Invitational in the fall before finishing in a tie for third at the City of Oaks Collegiate this spring. Ruffolo is an All-BIG EAST golfer from a season ago. She has twice this season been named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week.
  • Megan Gormley is the reigning BIG EAST Golfer of the Year and has competed in all 27 rounds this season. She owns a 74.56 stroke average to go along with a team-best 2.59 birdies and 10.33 pars per round. The co-captain has tallied a pair of rounds each at and under par, all coming during the fall season. The product out of Palos Verdes Estates, California has a pair of top 10 individual finishes to her name with a 10th-place finish at the Princeton Invitational and fourth-place showing at the Blue Hen Invitational. Gormley is a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree, earning the accolade the past three seasons. She has twice this season been named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week.
  • Gabriella Eifrig is the third Hoya to play in all 27 rounds thus far this season, owning a 77.19 stroke average while tallying 1.93 birdies and 9.96 pars per round. The freshman has tallied a pair of rounds under par, both in the spring season, and most recently turned in a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Terps Invitational. The Newport Beach,  California native has been named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week once this season.
  • Fourth in the lineup is sophomore Claire Chen. She has seen action in a trio of events this weekend, playing one in the fall before playing in the last two tournaments. She has a 78.44 stroke average through nine rounds of golf and manages 0.44 birdies and 7.00 pars per round. She has turned in a pair of rounds at par in the past two tournaments.
  • Rounding out the lineup is freshman Catherine Qiu. She has played in 24 rounds over the year, playing in the fourth and fifth spots in each tournament played. She tallies 1.25 birdies and 9.42 pars per round while managing an 80.17 stroke average.
  • The Hoyas will look to graduate student Charlotte Hillary as a substitute if needed. Hillary has played 24 rounds of golf this season, averaging 1.67 birdies and 9.46 pars per round this season. A strong fall, Hillary managed one round each at and under par in the fall, both at the Princeton Invitational. Hillary has a 78.63 stroke average for the season after a fall season that saw her manage a 76.00 stroke average.
  • As a squad, the Hoyas have turned in seven top-10 team finishes, including a trio among the top three so far this season. Most recently, the squad managed a 21-over team performance including a pair of 5-over 293s in the final two rounds at the Terps Invitational.
 
HOYAS X BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS
  • Georgetown has twice won the BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep (2018, 2017) and turned in nine runner-up performances, including four of the last five championships and the last three straight.
  • In the BIG EAST Championship, Ruffolo (2024, 2nd round) and Gormley (2022, 2nd round) have both posted a 3-under 69, the best individual round for a Hoya.
  • The best team round for a GU squad was a 3-under 285, carded in the second round of the 2024 championship.
  • Gormley's 2-under 214 in 2022 still stands as the best individual 54-hole score for a Georgetown student-athlete.
