Hoyas Hit the Road to Face Villanova

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will travel to Villanova, Pennsylvania to take on the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday night. Tipoff at Finneran Pavilion is scheduled for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In the last outing, Georgetown (9-9, 1-6 BE) fell to then-No. 3/4 UConn, 64-62, at Capital One Arena. Vince Iwuchukwu and KJ Lewis led a quartet of Hoyas with 12 points apiece, while Malik Mack added 11, and Jeremiah Williams chipped in 10. Iwuchukwu pulled down a career-high and game-best 14 rebounds for the second double-double of his career while Jayden Fort snagged six boards off the bench. J. Williams paced the Hoya offense with five of GU's 13 assists.
  • A quintet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 14.8 ppg, followed by Mack (14.3 ppg), Julius Halaifonua (10.7 ppg), Iwuchukwu (10.3 ppg) and Caleb Williams (10.2 ppg).
  • C. Williams leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 5.6 rpg, followed by Lewis with 5.5 rpg, and Halaifonua who pulls down 4.7 rpg.
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which ranks sixth in the league, followed by Lewis who averages 2.9 apg.
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.1 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
  • Villanova enters the matchup with a 14-4 start to the 2025-26 season, including a 5-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Wildcats are receiving votes in both polls. VU went 21-15 during the 2024-25 season with a 11-9 mark in the conference.
  • In its last outing, Villanova fell to St. Johns on January 17 at Xfinity Mobile Arena, 86-79. Tyler Perkins led the Wildcats in scoring with 23 points, followed by Devin Askew's 21 points and Bryce Lindsay, who chipped in 11. Duke Brennan was Villanova's leading rebounder with nine boards, while Perkins pulled down five. Academy Lewis paced the Wildcat offense with five assists.
  • Lindsay leads a quintet of Wildcats in double figures, averaging 14.9 ppg, followed by Brennan (12.2 ppg), Lewis (12.1 ppg), Perkins (12.1 ppg) and Matt Hodge (10.3 ppg).
  • Brennan leads Villanova on the glass, grabbing 10.6 rpg.
  • Lewis's 5.3 apg paces the Wildcat offense.
  • Villanova is led by Head Coach Kevin Willard in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Villanova will meet for the 99th time in program history, with the Hoyas trailing 47-51 in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was March 4, 2025 with the Hoyas winning 75-73 at home. Jayden Epps paced four Hoyas in double figures with 20 points on 6-for-12 shooting, capped by a game-winning layup with 5.0 seconds left in the contest, while Micah Peavy followed with 19 points on five triples. Jordan Burks added a career-high 14 points and Mack chipped in 10 points.
  • Cooley is 10-21 all-time against Villanova and sits at 17-14 against Willard in his career.
