Field Hockey Travels to Philadelphia for Weekend Series

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team heads north to Philadelphia this weekend for a pair of games in the City of Brotherly Love. The Hoyas kick off the weekend against BIG EAST foe Villanova on Friday at 12 p.m. before battling Drexel on Sunday at noon.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown went 0-2 last weekend with a pair of one-goal losses to fall to 4-6 on the year and 0-2 in BIG EAST play.
  • In Friday's home opener, the Hoyas were narrowly edged in the final minutes by visiting Providence in the home opener at Kehoe Field before falling 2-1 in overtime at VCU on Sunday.
  • Adelae Chierici scored the lone goal for the Hoyas courtesy of an assist from Anna Krebs. Alex Duff (2-5) had eight saves in the loss to the Friars while Ella Fahey (2-1) matched her with eight saves against the Rams.
  • On the year, Kate McManaman paces the Blue & Gray with nine points (3G, 3A) while Izzy Lee (2G, 2A) and Katherine Malloy (3G) both have six. Chierici has five points (2G, 1A) while Riley Fitzgerald, Carline Suko and Colleen Maloney all have four points off of two goals apiece.
  • In goal, Duff has started seven of GU's 10 games and holds a 1.80 goals-against average with 35 saves, a .729 save percentage and one shutout. Fahey has a 1.54 GAA with 10 saves and a .667 save percentage.
Scouting Villanova
  • Friday's BIG EAST showdown is slated for 12 p.m. at Ellen Ryan Field on the campus of Saint Joseph's.
  • Villanova is 6-3 to start the year and 1-1 in league play. The Wildcats are coming off of a 4-1 win against Temple and opened BIG EAST play with a 3-1 loss at No. 10 UConn the week prior.
  • Ava Borkowski leads VU with 20 points (9G, 2A) while Gemma Lysaght has 18 (6G, 6A) and Collen Finnan adds 10 (4G, 2A).
  • Ava Porter (5-2) has started all nine games for Villanova and has a 1.03 GAA with 36 saves and a .818 save percentage in 467:05 between the pipes.
  • The Wildcats defeated Georgetown 5-0 in last year's meeting in the Nation's Capital. The last Hoya victory came in 2021 with a 2-1 victory on the Hilltop.
Scouting Drexel
  • Sunday's game is set for noon in Philadelphia at Buckley Field.
  • The Dragons are 7-2 on the year and are riding a three-game winning streak with victories over Fairfield, Villanova and Penn.
  • Fleur Hamera leads Drexel with 19 points (8G, 3A) while Pili Lemoine has 17 (6G, 5A), Valentine van Hellemont adds 16 (7G, 2A) and Cato Nackaerts chips in 13 (4G, 5A).
  • Halle Geiger (7-2) has started all nine games in goal for Drexel and has a 1.35 GAA with 37 saves and a .787 save percentage.
  • Drexel won the last meeting 6-0 at home in 2022. Georgetown's last win in the series came 5-1 at home in 1997.
