WASHINGTON – Georgetown track & field wrapped up competition at the Penn State National Open in University Park, Pennsylvania with numerous athletes setting personal bests and breaking records over the course of the two-day meet.
Tinoda Matsatsa once again etched himself into Georgetown and NCAA indoor record books in the 800m, finishing second with a time of 1:45.12. The time marks the fastest in program history and the third fastest in NCAA history, shattering his previous school record of 1:45.21.
Jaden Marchan continued the trend of record-breaking performances on Saturday by shattering his own school record of 1:01.55 in the 500m event, finishing with a time of 1:00.62. Marchan's finish ranks second in NCAA history and sets a new national record for Trinidad and Tobago.
"Georgetown's rich history in middle distance running has certainly provided some special moments, and the performance by
Tinoda Matsatsa on Friday at Penn State surely adds to that story. His 1:45.12 ranks third best all-time at the collegiate level; with so much more running left in the season, we're excited to see what's to come. Also, a special weekend for
Jaden Marchan as he ran an incredibly fast 500m, second best all-time collegiately, and an impressive solo effort with the challenge being the clock. Breaking a national record of the legendary Ian Morris makes it that much more special. Excited to see what's in store for him this season. We're looking poised for more big performances across the entire team as we head into February." - Head Coach
Alton McKenzie
"I thought this was an excellent weekend for the team. Only Tinoda and I truly know what his last six months have been, but him running 1:45.12 is so inspiring. I couldn't be more proud of his effort. Nick Medeiros won his heat, and I know huge things are coming for him. He's someone who has kept believing through the highs and lows, and I'm so excited for the rest of his year." - Assistant Coach
