Georgetown Heads to UNCW for a Five-Game Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team (1-1) will head to Wilmington, North Carolina to play five games hosted by UNCW. The Hoyas will open the weekend on Friday, February 20 with a game against Lafayette (0-5) at 11 a.m., followed by a contest against UNCW (4-5) at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the Hoyas will face Iona (0-5) at 10 a.m. before facing Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. GU will close out the weekend with a game at 12:30 p.m. against the host UNCW.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas opened up the 2026 campaign going 1-1 against Delaware last weekend. GU shut out the Blue Hens 3-0 to earn its first victory of the season. 
  • Emily Collins was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance inside the circle for the Hoyas. The sophomore pitched seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out six batters.
  • Head Coach Karla Ross is entering her second season at the helm of the program. Ross is joined by new Assistant Coach Amelia Lech
  • The Hoyas will face Iona and Lafayette for the first time in program history. 
  • GU has a 6-5 advantage over UNCW. The Blue & Gray's last win over the Seahawks was a 14-6 victory at home on March 7, 2020. 
ABOUT THE LEOPARDS
  • Lafayette is coming off of a 0-5 weekend at the Houston Invitational last weekend. The Leopards fell to Incarnate Word (2-1), Houston (12-4), Penn State (14-1), Houston Christian (6-3) and Michigan (9-0). 
  • Head Coach Kelliner Crouchore is in her second season at the helm of the Leopards program. 
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
  • UNCW is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Wofford Invitational. The Seahawks defeated St. Bonaventure (3-1, 8-1) and UMBC (8-0) before falling 5-1 to Wofford. 
  • The Seahawks are 4-5 on the season and 1-3 on home turf.
  • Freshman pitcher Camille Hamilton earned Coastal Athletic Association Softball Co-Rookie of the Week honors for her performance at the Wofford Invitational. Hamilton went 1-0 with a save, 16 strikeouts and just four baserunners allowed in 10 innings of work.
ABOUT THE GAELS
  • Iona is coming off a 0-5 weekend at the UNF-JU Invitational. The Gaels fell to North Florida (3-0, 3-1), Jacksonville (9-1, 3-2) and Princeton (7-5). 
  • The Gaels were predicted to finish fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. 
  • Seniors Brooke Acker and Hailey Guerrero earned Preseason All-MAAC honors.
