Hoyas Head to MSG for Tuesday Night Tilt with No. 18/17 St. John's

WASHINGTON – Georgetown men's basketball travels to New York City for a Tuesday night matchup against No. 18/17 St. John's at Madison Square Garden. Tipoff at the World's Most Famous Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • In its last outing, Georgetown (13-16, 5-13 BE) fell 91-84 at Xavier at Cintas Center on Saturday. Kayvaun Mulready scored a career-high 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting off the bench to lead a quartet of Hoyas in double-figure scoring. Malik Mack was GU's next leading scorer with 17 points, followed by Vince Iwuchukwu's 15 points off the bench and Jeremiah Williams with 10 points. J. Williams dished out a career-high 10 assists for the first double-double of his career, while Iwuchukwu led the Hoyas on the glass with six rebounds.
  • Following a medical evaluation, junior guard KJ Lewis will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after he suffered an injury to his left ankle that occurred in the game against Marquette on Tuesday, February 24.
  • A trio of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who ends his season averaging 14.9 ppg, followed by Mack (13.8 ppg) and Iwuchukwu (11.7 ppg). Lewis ranks eighth in the BE in scoring.
  • Iwuchukwu leads the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 6.0 rpg, followed by Caleb Williams (5.3 rpg) and Lewis (5.1 rpg).
  • Mack paces the offense with 4.2 apg, which is sixth in the league, followed by J. Williams (2.7 apg) and Lewis (2.5 apg).
  • Lewis ranks second in the BIG EAST and leads the Hoyas in strips with 2.1 spg.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll in Head Coach Ed Cooley's third season at the helm.
 
ABOUT THE NO. 18/17 RED STORM
  • St. John's enters the matchup with a 23-6 record for the 2025-26 season, including a 16-2 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • In its last outing, St. John's defeated Villanova 89-57 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Ian Jackson led the Red Storm with 19 points on 5-for-11 shooting while Zuby Ejiofor scored 16 points, Oziyah Sellers added 14 points and Ruben Prey managed 10 points. Ejiofor tallied his first career triple-double, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds and dishing out a game-high 10 assists in the win.
  • Ejiofor leads St. John's with 15.6 ppg, followed by Bryce Hopkins (13.6 ppg), Sellers (10.8) and Jackson (10.4 ppg) to round out those in double figures.
  • Ejiofor's 7.2 rpg leads the Red Storm on the boards while Dillon Mitchell grabs 6.9 rpg and Hopkins snags 5.9 rpg..
  • Ejiofor also paces St. John's offense with 3.6 apg while Mitchell dishes out 2.9 apg.
  • St. John's is led by Head Coach Rick Pitino in his third season with the Red Storm.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and St. John's will meet for the 128th time in program history, with the Red Storm holding a 70-57 record in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was on New Year's Eve with the Hoyas falling 95-83 at Capital One Arena. Lewis led a pair of Hoyas in double figures with a game-best and career-high 27 points on eight made field goals and a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the charity stripe. Mack added 18 points fueled by four made 3-pointers. He also dished out eight assists to pace GU's offense and pulled down a game-best eight rebounds. Jayden Fort came off the bench to grab a squad-best and career-high eight rebounds.
  • Cooley maintains a 15-14 record against St. John's and a 1-6 mark against Pitino.
  • The Hoyas are 6-8 all-time against AP No. 18 with the last meeting coming during the 2016-17 season (No. 18 Butler; L, 85-76 in overtime) and the last win coming during the 2014-15 season (No. 18 Florida; W, 66-65 in overtime in a neutral site game as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis). 
  • The Hoyas have faced St. John's as the No. 18 team two other times, a 74-67 win on February 3, 1990 when the Hoyas were tabbed sixth and a 68-58 loss on February 25, 1991 when the Blue & Gray ranked No. 25. Both were road games.
