WASHINGTON – For the first time in program history, Georgetown University's men's sprint medley relay team has won back-to-back Penn Relays championships. The quartet of
Aaron Guillaume,
Nicholas Givan,
Jaden Marchan and
Tinoda Matsatsa rewrote the record books, storming to a school-record time of 3:13.96 to capture the Sprint Medley Championship of America on Friday night at Franklin Field on the University of Pennsylvania's campus.
"Certainly, was a great day to be a Hoya. We had
Ida Moczerniuk win her heat to earn a place in Saturday's women's 100m final. Our men ran an exceptional 4x4 with a tremendous anchor leg by Josua Davenport. However, easily one of the biggest moments of the entire day was our men repeating as SMR champions and breaking the school record while doing so. Tinoda has been able to close from behind to secure the wins, but his teammates certainly set the table so he could eat! So proud of all four and excited to close out the Penn Relays with more great performances." -Head Coach
Alton McKenzie
"Winning a wheel at Penn is always difficult and always feels good. I'm very happy with all 4 legs of the SMR. They executed really well. One of the hardest things to do in sports is defend a title, and we did that today. Birhanu ran an incredible race last night in the 5k. He ran 1:58 for his last 800 and 56 for his last 400. His aerobic ability has never been in question, but his finishing speed is coming around nicely. He's very ready for the postseason." -Assistant Coach
