WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's field hockey team opens its 2026 campaign on the road with a pair of games in North Carolina over the weekend. The Hoyas open the season against Davidson on Friday, August 28 at 5 p.m. before facing Appalachian State on Sunday, August 30 at noon.

About the Hoyas

• Georgetown returns eight of its top 10 scorers from 2025 and its entire goalkeeping unit.
• Junior Riley Fitzgerald is the leading returning scorer with the Hoyas after a nine-point campaign last year while senior captain Izzy Lee and junior Katherine Malloy both had seven points a year ago.
• Also back is the top assist distributor in Elena Perez Alejandro following a Second Team All-BIG EAST nod in 2025 as well as Preseason All-BIG EAST recognition for the upcoming campaign.
• Other returning Hoyas that registered points last year include Elizabeth Rossotti (four points), Lily Saal (four points), Caroline Suko (four points), Anna Gill (two points), Adelae Chierici (one point) and Colleen Maloney (one point).
• Defensively, the Hoyas battled in seven one-goal games last year and posted the most wins in a season since 2021.
• In goal, senior captain Ella Fahey is back between the pipes after posting a 4-8 overall record to go with a .766 save percentage, a 1.53 goals-against average and 59 saves. She is joined between the pipes by sophomore Alex Duff who saw action in 10 games as a freshman and collected 33 saves on the year.
• Georgetown welcomes five newcomers for the 2026 season.

Scouting Davidson

• Friday's season opener is slated for 5 p.m. in Davidson, North Carolina.
• The Wildcats went 10-9 in 2025 and lost to top-seeded Richmond in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
• Six Davidson players had double-digit points last year but only three return – Eva van der Kooi (12 points), Lourdes Wolf (12 points) and Matilda Collins (10 points). Gone is the Wildcats' top threat - Sib Naaktgeboren – after a 48-point senior campaign in 2025.
• Both of Davidson's goalkeepers return, with Avery Foster and Eleanor Larsen combining for a 2.04 GAA, 75 saves and a.658 save percentage.
• Georgetown has opened the regular season against Davidson every year since 2015 with the exception of 2021.
• The Hoyas defeated Davidson 2-1 in the 2025 season opener, played at a neutral site in Towson, Maryland. Lee and Perez Alejandro both had assists in the game while Fahey hauled in five saves.

Scouting App State

• The Mountaineers went 14-6 last season and lost in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament to UMass.
• App State returns only two of their top-10 scorers from a year ago but have second leading scorer Sophia Baxter (30 points) back for another year.
• In goal, Dakota Anderson is the lone Mountaineer returner to have seen any in-game action. She played in two games last season for a total of 23:21 and posted a 2.57 GAA with one save and a .500 save percentage.
• App State hosts Towson on Friday before playing the Hoyas.
• Georgetown and App State faced off in the opening weekend last year in Towson, Maryland with the Mountaineers winning 3-1.
